6 SA Margaritas To Help You Forget Your Post-Holiday Blues

The holidays are over, and while the rest of the country may be cupping hot toddies and mulled wine, we San Antonians have the luxury of sipping away our post-holiday blues the South Texas way: with salt (or sugar) on the rim. Celebrate our unseasonably warm December temperatures (and shake off those post-Christmas blues) with one of San Antonio’s best margaritas!

Last year, we published a blog entitled, “The Five Best Margaritas in San Antonio.” But, because limiting the list to five was maybe the most difficult thing we’ve ever had to do, we’re back for round two...literally. Blended or on the rocks, our city has plenty of ways to enjoy this tequila-infused staple. Read below for 6 more local favorites!

*The original list included La Fogata, Rosario's, Esquire, Cibolo Moon, and Fruteria. Runners Up included Nao Latin Gastro Bar, Chacho's, El Mirasol, and Paloma Blanca

1. La Margarita

Located in Market Square (nicknamed “The Heartbeat of Mexico” in SA), La Margarita does justice to its name. Try a fancy flavor like Pomegranate or Passion Fruit, or keep it traditional.

2. Acenar

Named “one of the largest and most innovative contemporary Mexican restaurants and bars on the River Walk,” Acenar boasts a signature Tuna Margarita made with silver tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime and prickly pear cactus juice, among other incredible recipes!

3. Charlie Wants a Burger

Don’t let the name fool you...Charlie may have come for the burger, but we’re willing to bet he stayed for a few margs. If you’re brave, try the Cactus Viper Margarita, made with gold tequila and prickly pear cactus puree.

4. El Jarro

“A San Antonio tradition for nearly 40 years”, El Jarro serves up a variety of margaritas, from Top Shelf to Mediterranean! All of their Margaritas are made with freshly squeezed lime juice, available by the pitcher or glass.

5. Aldaco's

Frozen avocado margarita? Yes, please! Known for their fresh, authentic fare and exquisite desserts, Aldaco’s crown jewel might just be its unique array of margs.

6. Ocho

With pan-Latin cultural influences from Mexico, Cuba, and Texas, Ocho’s cocktail menu highlights best of both worlds. Enjoy a classic margarita in a gorgeous, high-class setting.

After a season full of frantic mall-shopping, untangling endless strings of lights, and assuring each relative, “I bought a gift receipt!”, the time has come for a well-deserved nap...and a drink. If you have a favorite we didn’t mention, be sure and let us know in the comments below!
