Would you rather live in the city or in the country? Check out these two San Antonio homes for sale and find your answer!
“Do you like the city or country?”
It seems like a simple question, right? But, just like many of our favorite first-date dichotomies (Cats or dogs? Coffee or tea? Beach or mountains?), the answer might just say a lot about you.
We decided to put this question to the test with two wildly different local homes.
Pictured above on the left, 224 Carolina St, is a rare historic home for sale in the Lavaca neighborhood. As the oldest neighborhood in the city, Lavaca is as historic as it is hip, located smack-dab in the heart of San Antonio’s coolest art district.
The second home (pictured on the right), 102 Mountain View, is a Hill Country estate perched a few miles north of small town Boerne, TX (just half an hour drive from downtown San Antonio). Spread out over 5.27 acres, this property is about as “country” as 224 Carolina St is “city.”

Built in 1900, this fully restored colonial-style home straddles the line between old-fashioned and mega-hip. Peppered with vintage details (from the trim and hardwood floors to the fireplace), this home’s recent full remodel also boasts plenty of delightful contemporary touches.
Walk into 102 Mountain View, and it’s whole other ball game. Boasting “unsurpassed privacy” and panoramic views, this Boerne home was built for relaxation. From its hardwood floors to its dramatic ceilings, this estate is every bit “Hill Country luxury.”
Here’s where the two homes really start to diverge. Though fully updated and strategically designed, 224 Carolina St’s kitchen is certainly smaller than 102 Mountain View’s giant setup. However, its location in Lavaca means residents are within walking distance to many of San Antonio’s hottest restaurants.
102 Mountain View, on the other hand, invites you to stay home and cook, whether for guests or the family. Recent kitchen updates include granite, stainless steel appliances, double ovens, a huge pantry, knotty pine cabinets, and a large bar with seating.
Don’t get us wrong: this doesn’t mean 224 Carolina St isn’t ready and willing to host guests. The generous common area and open dining room are perfect for dinner parties. (Plus, look at those unique light fixtures!)
Though not quite as open to the rest of the floorplan, 102 Mountain View’s formal dining room is still spacious! Plus, you can step out onto the patio after you’ve finished your meal.
Ahhhhh, time to relax! Which master suite do you like best? Pictured above, 224 Carolina St’s main bedroom is tucked away on the second floor, away from guests and noise. Simple and spacious, it leads into the stunning master bath, which includes a modern standalone tub, luxury shower, and double vanity.
A bit more dated, but a LOT more spacious, 102 Mountain View features five bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. There’s plenty of space for you to sleep in, only to wake up and enjoy the Hill Country views.
Here’s where the location really comes into play. The view from 224 Carolina St’s generous porch might be so-so, but its location puts it within walking distance of all San Antonio’s trendiest attractions (HemisFair Park, La Villita, the Riverwalk, and Blue Star Gallery).
On the other hand, 102 Mountain View’s semi-rural location (and high acreage) offer peace and quiet, 360-degree views, and country air.
