Neighborhood Spotlight: Stone Oak
Stone Oak's unique expression of Hill Country charm and San Antonio luxury has made it one of the top neighborhoods in San Antonio's up-and-coming Northside community.
The History
The vision of several innovative developers in the 1980’s, the Stone Oak neighborhood began as a sprawling plot of ranchland in a far north San Antonio zip code. At the time, this area of San Antonio was considered “outlying”, and Stone Oak was designed as a suburb-type community for affluent commuters. Thankfully, this real estate gamble ended in Monte-Carlo-style success, and Stone Oak is now one of the most coveted communities in the Alamo City!
Originally designed with multiple land uses to allow for community development, Stone Oak’s unique master-planned structure invited everything from recreation and leisure to business and medicine. The growing San Antonio neighborhood has flourished around Stone Oak’s thriving epicenter, propelling its subdivisions from outlying subdivisions to up-and-coming, coveted San Antonio real estate.
The Homes
Though Stone Oak may be one of the larger San Antonio neighborhoods, its diverse home selection is spread throughout over two dozen sub-divisions, including the Canyons, the Glen, the Heights, the Hills, Mesa Verde, the Springs, Stone Oak Meadows, Stone Oak Parke, Stone Oak Villas, The Forest, The Gardens, Panther Creek, The Villages, The Summit, the Vistas, and The Ridge (among others).
Many houses in Stone Oak were built in the early 1990’s and sell for around $250,000, while homes in the gated neighborhoods such as The Forest and The Heights sell for over $450,000. The current median listing price is $319,000, though home prices span from $255,000 to over $1 Million, spanning the full gamut of San Antonio houses for sale.
