Transplant’s Guide to San Antonio: Shopping Edition

First of all, we would like to congratulate you on moving to San Antonio! This city is incredibly diverse and unique, able to accommodate a variety of demographics, from families to singles to professionals, artists, and more. The shopping culture of San Antonio certainly reflects this! This city contains a lot of variety and options. Instead of making you navigate through the bad to find the good, we’ve compiled a list of local favorites, from luxury goods to flea markets.

Fashion & Luxury Goods

-Alamo Quarry Market (225 E Basse Rd)

Built on the abandoned remnants of a historic quarry, The Quarry Market is located in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of San Antonio. This unique shopping hub is a favorite in San Antonio, with over 75 shops and restaurants, including Whole Foods Market, Nordstrom Rack, and a premium movie theater. The Quarry is the best of both worlds: centrally located without being downtown, therefore offering ample parking, and boasting both luxury and character.

-La Cantera (15900 La Cantera Pkwy)

San Antonio’s best shopping can certainly be found at The Shops at La Cantera, an open-air shopping mall located near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 1604. This outdoor shopping mall features beautiful architecture, covered walkways, and an overall upscale experience. At La Cantera, you can browse through over 1.3 Million square feet of shops, including Anthropologie, Burberry, Zara, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom.

-The Rim (Intersection of I-10/Loop 1604)

Located just across the Interstate from La Cantera is The Rim, which offers discount and specialty stores like DSW, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, and Target. After you’re done shopping, you can catch a movie at The Palladium, a luxury theater containing IMAX screens and specialty food, or eat at one of the many restaurants in the shopping center.

-North Star (7400 San Pedro Ave)

A classic San Antonio shopping favorite, you’ll recognize the North Star mall by its iconic “Texas-sized” cowboy boots. North Star offers over 200 shops, including premier stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Armani Exchange, as well as a double-story Forever 21. This mall is located right off of Loop 410 in the Uptown District, so incredible shopping is accessible from almost anywhere in the city.

Markets & Antiques

-Bussey’s Flea Market (Schertz, TX)

Whether you’re looking for quirky goods or just a fun Saturday afternoon, Bussey’s Flea Market will provide you with a unique day of shopping and people watching! Locals say it’s the best flea market between San Antonio and Austin, boasting space for over 500 vendors. Books, handmade goods, antiques, and all kinds of specialty items are available at this flea market. It’s just a few minutes North of the city on I-35.

-Traders Village (Southwest Loop 410)

Traders Village, located in the southwest corner of the city, is a holistic shopping and entertainment experience. According to their website, Traders Village is: “a swap meet, treasure hunt, shopping complex, county fair, and festival attraction all rolled into one.” This complex features rides, events, and over 1,000 vendors.

-Charlott’s Antiques (2023 Austin Hwy)

Charlott’s Antiques is a hidden gem in San Antonio! Voted San Antonio’s best antique store by the SA Current, Charlott’s buys and sells vintage jewelry, furniture, collectibles, art, memorabilia, and more. They also specialize in estate sales, hosting approximately 6 per year. Locals love Charlott’s because of its diverse selection and excellent quality. You’re sure to find treasures when you shop at this San Antonio favorite!

Outlets & Deals

-San Marcos Premium Outlets & Tanger Outlets (San Marcos, TX)

Though these designer outlets aren’t located within city limits, they’re just under 30 minutes away! If you travel north on I-35, you’ll see the mega-outlet complex San Marcos is famous for. Trust us, these deals are worth the drive. Tanger Factory Outlets and Premium Outlets combine to offer more than 350 discount stores. In 2006, this complex was named by the third-best place to shop in the world by ABC’s The View. These two outdoor centers are easy and pleasant to navigate, making for a perfect afternoon excursion.

-Nordstrom Rack (The Quarry/The Rim)

According to Nordstrom Rack, this is where style meets savings. This store offers designer brands and quality goods at majorly reduced prices...up to 70% off! Inventory is replenished weekly, so check back often for new additions. Nordstrom Rack carries fashion, shoes, and accessories for men, women, and children. San Antonio offers two different Nordstrom Rack locations: The Rim and The Quarry Market.

-Buffalo Exchange (145 W Olmos Dr)

If you like finding designer clothes at discount prices, you’ll love Buffalo Exchange. This store is an upscale, offbeat, trendy thrift store that specializes in the hipster side of consignment. Near the Quarry Market, it’s a must-go for anyone looking for designer deals!
