Because of its numerous military bases, San Antonio seems to be a hub for both active duty  military members and retirees. The city is welcoming, family-friendly, and full of culture. We’ve researched the area surrounding several bases in San Antonio and hand-picked several neighborhoods that seem particularly appealing to military families. Randolph AFB: Randolph Air Force Base, located on the  northeast side of San Antonio, is surrounded by several small towns and communities perfect for military families.

Schertz: Located less than 3 miles away,  Schertz, TX is a charming town with excellent schools and several viable neighborhoods for military families. Jonas Woods is a community of over 300 homes, a swimming pool, and beautiful landscaping. Homes tend to range in the mid-200k’s. Nearby, Greenshire offers a similar neighborhood vibe for prices more towards the 300k range.

Universal City: Less than 2 miles away from Randolph, Universal City is in a prime location for military homeowners. The Olympia Hills neighborhood is a relatively new gold course community by the reputable Woodside Homes builders. Homes range from 370k-415k. Additionally, Universal City has several lower-priced neighborhoods like Old Cimarron Trail, where the median home price is in the 200k’s.


Garden Ridge: A bit further down the road is the luxurious hill country town of  Garden Ridge. Homes in this area tend to be spacious, beautiful, and relatively private. Arrowood Estates is gated luxury community with large lots, beautiful architecture, and energy efficient features. Other neighborhoods include Enclave of Garden Ridge, Garden Ridge Estates, etc. Homes in this area tend to be range between 400k and 600k, but can go higher if you decide to build a luxury home in the area.
