Ten Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend (September 9-11)

One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series, all pressure is off! Ten fun things to do in San Antonio will be chosen each week to make researching for the next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.

  • 1.  Celebrate San Antonio's Heritage

San Antonio is a city of rich culture and there are many opportunities to celebrate that. This weekend, take pride in San Antonio’s historic mission sites in the downtown area. The Heritage Festival event will support, promote, and maintain the missions so that people can continue to learn about the historical significance of these amazing sites. There are events all weekend long, such as the early morning bike ride giving you a tour of the missions, the 5K walk/run, a celebratory mass, and more. Pick and choose which events you’d like to attend in honor of San Antonio’s culture and heritage.

  • 2.  Munch Out

Get excited to munch out on delicious food this weekend, prepared by outstanding chefs on their famous and memorable food trucks. These fantastic food trucks are packed with different flavors and cuisines to satisfy every taste bud. Enjoy delicious food all in one place and try something new! The food truck lineup will be bigger and better than ever this year so come with an appetite! Entertainment and shopping will also be available to create a fun atmosphere and an afternoon that you won’t forget. You can purchase food tickets upon arrival so that you don’t have to worry about using cash or credit cards at the different trucks! Come hungry and leave with a smile!

  • 3.  Sketch Out a Masterpiece

Put your drawing skills to the test at San Antonio Museum of Art. This weekend, the museum invites you to participate in a sketch lesson with local artist Larry Leissner. You’ll have time to work in groups and individually as you craft your skills and create a masterpiece. Receive inside tips and guidance on your sketch and share your work with other enthusiasts. This month will be focusing on comparative figures as the topic. Let your creativity shine as you increase your sketching talent!

  • 4.  Sample and Savor

The San Antonio Botanical Garden invites you to sample and savor different craft brews as you wander through the gorgeous gardens listening to music. This event is specifically for those 21 and over, creating a fun, adult atmosphere in the garden. Local breweries are excited to share the seasonal brews that they have and their best selections. This is a rare day in the garden and you definitely won’t want to miss out on all of the fun!

  • 5.  Love on Lovato

Pop superstars Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas are here in San Antonio this weekend! Best known for their catchy songs and unshakable lyrics, Lovato and Jonas are teaming up for this memorable concert. They’ll trade off singing (and even sing duets together) to create a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans to witness. Celebrate your love for horses this weekend with EquestFest, the equestrian festival that recognizes horses and their riders. It’s not a common occurrence to have a full event featured around horses so make the most out of the opportunity and jump in the saddle for the EquestFest here in San Antonio!

The classic tale of the Von Trapp family and their governess brings warmth and joy to every heart. The Sound of Music is here this weekend at the Majestic Theatre. The Carriage House Art Gallery is celebrating its 13-year anniversary and opens its doors for you to enjoy the location, meet artists, and hear the story of how the Carriage House began. Appetizers and wine will be served to guests as they listen to the various artists and their stories. It’s a day full of creation, art, and story telling! The enjoyable atmosphere will allow you to really discover the message behind the art presented.
