One of San Antonio’s greatest upsides is the variety of “things” to see and do at any given time. This weekend is no exception as a variety of different events take place in and around the city. No effort is needed, ten of the best fun things to do in San Antonio this weekend are already described below. Hopefully this list will make researching for this weekend’s Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.

1. Ride Over to The San Antonio Auto Show

Have a need for speed? This is your event. The San Antonio Auto Show rolls into town this weekend to display the best and brightest in automobile engineering. All major automobile brands will be at the show to showcase best sellers and concepts alike. In addition to the cars themselves, the event will also feature appearances by the likes of Spurs Assistant Coach Becky Hammon, and everyone’s favorite crime fighter, Batman (who will also have his car on display). Further, kids will be delighted to visit the “Kidzone” which will offer Power Wheels rides and other activities. The San Antonio Auto Show is a can’t miss event for all ages!

2. Feed a Giraffe at the Zoo

Every kid has a favorite zoo experience, and a favorite animal. Sadly, giraffe lovers in San Antonio have been without their favorite the past few years as the giraffe exhibit was renovated. But there is good news! This weekend marks the first of many opportunities for a new favorite experience as giraffes return to the San Antonio Zoo! The habitat is new and improved, and visitors will even be able to feed live giraffes. The opportunity to actually interact with the animals seems worth the wait and is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

When: All weekend from 9am to 6pm.

3. Throwback to 1994 with Collective Soul

Do you remember the days of early 90s grunge rock bands? From Nirvana to Pearl Jam the 90s produced a number of memorable names. Collective Soul is one of those names, and makes their return to San Antonio this Saturday night. The show will take place at the historic Aztec Theater. Once mentioned in the same sentence as the Majestic, the Aztec is actually three years older. The theater features beautiful aesthetic features and was reopened in 2009 as a concert venue. Collective Soul is most remembered for their 1994 hit “Shine”, which topped all rock songs in 1994 with a Billboard Award. The band and theatre are sure to combine for a great show!

4. Prepare for Thanksgiving with River City Run

Need to find time to prepare for guests and stay in shape? The perfect opportunity to multi-task, River City Run offers participants the ability to run through a carefully planned 5k course while taking in San Antonio sights and history throughout. The course consists of 15 different stops and 18 landmarks that will be narrated by your trivia trained tour guides. The tour tries to maintain a manageable pace and stops often to provide runners of different skill levels the ability to participate. Get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather with River City Run!

5. Embrace Your Artsy Side at Teen Arts Fest

Do you have a creative teen? This weekend San Antonio has just the event for you. The Downtown Teen Arts Fest was created to foster interest in the arts for the teenagers of San Antonio. The Southwest School of Art, Artpace, and the Central Library host the festival. The festival will include musical performances, art shows, and even spoken word. Whether it be music, visual art, or performance, the downtown arts festival has something for everyone.

When: Saturday from 1pm to 5pm.

Where: Central Library (600 Soledad St) and Southwest School of Art (300 Augusta St).

6. Complete the Mission at 007 Casino Night

Feeling adventurous? Throw on a tux, grab your spy gear, and get ready for a wild ride. The Ferrari Kid presents 007 Casino Night. Conjuring images of James Bond’s forays into the most exclusive casinos in the world, this event is all sorts of fun bundled into one. Casino games of all shapes and sizes will be available for play with the price of admission. Make sure to work on your poker face beforehand, at the end of the night chips can be traded in for the chance to win incredible prizes! To top it all of the proceeds from the event go to a great charity that helps children with illnesses forget about their sickness and feel like a celebrity for a day. Don’t miss out!

7. Spread Holiday Cheer with Winterlude

Looking to get into the holiday spirit? The UTSA Music Department’s annual Winterlude will do just that! The annual performance is a combination of all your holiday favorites. The concert operates as live music surround sound, placing audience members in the middle of 7 different ensembles. The groups include Jazz Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Women’s Choir, Men’s Glee Club, Chamber Choir, and Orchestra. The finale will even include a joint performance between the multiple choirs and the orchestra, which is sure to be a treat! Winterlude 2015 provides the perfect dose of culture and sprit this weekend!

When: Sunday at 3pm.

8. Run Off to an Italian Water Circus

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you added water to a circus? Cirque Italia provides an answer. The first official water circus in the U.S. puts a unique twist on what we traditionally view as a circus. Made up of aerial acts, balancing, contortionists, along with a variety of other talents and added in water features Cirque Italia is sure to provide a show you’ll never forget!

9. Deck the Halls at Christmas Showcase

While it may seem that San Antonio has a different Holiday market to offer every weekend, none are as big as the 37th annual Christmas Showcase. The long tenure of the Showcase means it has become well known around town as a go-to yearly shopping event. Located in the Freeman Coliseum, the showcase is set to feature hundreds of vendors selling everything from home décor and clothing to gourmet foods and holiday gifts. The perfect one stop shop for the holiday season, Christmas Showcase is sure to offer all you seek for the start of the holidays!

When: Saturday and Sunday closing at 5pm.

10. Try Something New with “Untapped”

Lone Star Brewery shares a long and storied history with San Antonio. In fact, at one point Lone Star Brewery was on the largest brewery in Texas. While there have been changes in scenery, the original building now houses the San Antonio Museum of Art, the brewery was established in 1884 and continues production to this day. This weekend Lone Star Brewery plays host to “Untapped San Antonio”, a festival devoted to craft beer and live music. General Admission tickets will provide entrants with live music and up to 12 beer samples. More beverages will be available for purchase. Take the opportunity this weekend to explore something old while sampling something new.
