One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series all pressure is off! Ten fun things to do in San Antonio will be chosen each week to make researching for the next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.
- 1. Follow the Yellow Brick Road
You have probably heard of the famous Broadway musical “Wicked”; but you may not remember that it originated from the timeless movie “The Wizard of Oz”. This weekend begins the new adaptation of “The Wizard of Oz” musical at the Majestic Theatre. Join in on the fun with Dorothy, Toto, Tinman, Scarecrow, and The Cowardly Lion as they embark on a journey to help Dorothy get back home! This musical is full of fun, new music, and a lively atmosphere that will leave a smile on your face.

- 2. Experience Coney Island in San Antonio
The McNay Art Museum invites you to a Coney Island themed party this weekend! Put on your boardwalk attire and enjoy games, musical entertainment, Coney Island snacks, and cocktails. A silent auction will also be included in the evening to raise money for future exhibitions and conservation efforts. Items in the auction include a four-night stay at a resort, tickets to sporting events, baskets, and more! - 3. Brunch for A Morning
Who doesn’t love a good brunch, especially after a night out? United We Brunch is the ultimate brunch experience in San Antonio. To top it off, the event will be held in the Jack Guenther Pavilion at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, making for an enchanting atmosphere. - 4. Have a Haunted Adventure
Although Halloween seems far off, at Ripley’s Haunted Adventure, thrills and chills are a year-round occurrence. Come visit San Antonio’s #1 haunted house and multi million-dollar attraction. The attraction has live actors and special effects that will leave you feeling frightened and take fear to an entirely new level. The “mansion” is waiting to welcome you with ghoulish surprises and screams behind every single door and corner. Do something that’s atypical for the month of June…allow yourself to be scared!

- 5. Keep It Classical
San Antonio is hosting the 12th Annual San Antonio International Piano Competition. This amazing event invites piano soloists from all over the world, including Russia, Ukraine, China, South Korea, and the US. Each soloist is well versed in the piano and will be playing expertly as they demonstrate their mastery over the instrument. The competition caters to those aspiring pianists between the ages of twenty and thirty-two, specifically trying to encourage and help young artists. Allow yourself to be enriched by classical music this weekend and amazed at the talent of these young musicians.

- 6. Sip A Prickly Pear Margarita
The weather is hot and everyone is looking for a chance to escape work just a few minutes early this time of year. Take off early and head to Aldaco’s for an amazing happy hour and an even better prickly pear margarita. This San Antonio favorite has fabulous appetizers and authentic Mexican food, as well as various different drinks to help cool you off from the Texas heat. To top it off, the patio at the Stone Oak location is breathtaking and makes you feel like you are on a vacation as you sit on top of the hill, enjoying a cool drink, amazing Mexican food, and a breeze. - 7. Have a Laugh
The Overtime Theater invites you to join in on something that everyone has experienced: an awkward meal. The Supper Hour In Hell is the two-act comedy that will have you laughing out loud as you watch a multitude of characters share an uncomfortable meal together. The different relationships become apparent as the play goes on and audience members will grasp onto the storyline, characters, and hilarious dialogue as they enjoy this new comedy. Get a ticket ahead of time to make sure you’ll have a laugh this weekend.

- 8. Throw a Pool Party
With temperatures already reaching the nineties, you’ll need to find something to cool off this weekend! San Antonio has a variety of public pools that you can attend all summer long. Whether you’re going for a fun family outing or an early morning dip to exercise, you can try all the different pools this summer or find your favorite one! Swimming lessons are also offered at most pools if your little one is learning and many of the pools have certain hours for lap swim. Enjoy the free public pools all summer long! - 9. Get Lost in the Labyrinth
The San Antonio Museum of Art is hosting a movie night in their West Courtyard. Pan’s Labyrinth, a Guillermo del Toro film about an imaginative world, will be the showing of the evening. With a movie ticket, you also get free admission to the museum so that after the film (or before), you can walk around and view beautiful art to set the mood for the evening. Guests are welcome to pack a picnic, bring pillows and blankets, or grab a drink from the cash bar while they enjoy the film!

- 10. Get Fit with CrossFit!
The CrossFit program is widely known and praised for its amazing fitness results with clients. This Saturday, test out CrossFit for yourself at the Freetail Tap Room brewery. The class is available for anyone who wants to participate for the low cost of $10. It accommodates all fitness levels, so come as you are and don’t be shy! Instructors recommend a large bottle of water to ensure hydration throughout the course of the class. All other materials will be provided. Afterwards, you are invited to stay and experience the Freetail brewery and relax!
