Ten Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend (June 10-12)

One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series all pressure is off! Ten fun things to do in San Antonio will be chosen each week to make researching for the next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.

  • 1.  Submerge for an Adventure

School is out and summer has begun! If you’re a parent looking for a way to keep your child busy this summer, look no further than this fabulous program, taking place all week long, beginning June 12! Submerged: Deep Sea Adventure will allow your child to stay busy with music, arts and crafts, stories, and the opportunity to make new friends! This is an event put on by First Baptist Church but is open for any child who wants to participate! This week long voyage will ensure that your child stays busy, learns new things, and makes new friends.

When: June 12-16 @6pm-8:30pm

  • 2.  Get A Dose of Texas Folklife

Modeled after the Smithsonian’s Folklife Festival, the Texas Folklife Festival is known to be the biggest cultural celebration in the state of Texas! Over 40 cultural groups will be represented with more than 250 participants. The festival celebrates different cultures and heritages through food, art, dance, music, and crafts. It truly is a day of diversity right here in San Antonio. Come join in on the fun at the UTSA Hemisfair campus as San Antonio showcases the different cultures that make up our great city and state.

  • 3.  Party in the Tower

Tower of the Americas is one of San Antonio’s landmarks downtown. Everyone recognizes the iconic building but few have actually had dinner inside. This Friday is your chance to party in the tower! Not only will you get to enjoy food and drinks, but the evening hosts itself to a free concert as well! Local band, Big E and Wild Hairs is performing at the event. The band’s sound is compared to Eric Clapton or The Rolling Stones and is sure to offer up a great time for all guests in attendance. It’s a free party that will help you kick off the summer in an amazing location with a view of downtown in its entirety.

  • 4.  Experience the Extravaganza

With the arrival of June means wedding season for many people. Whether you are a part of a wedding, or simply attending, you won’t want to miss the Bridal Extravaganza here in San Antonio this weekend! The event showcases bridal dresses, vendors, cakes, flowers, and anything you could possibly need for a wedding! Even if you aren’t getting married, it’s a fun event with fashion shows, grand prizes, exhibitors, and more! You may buy your tickets in advance or purchase at the door. Friends and family are welcome to attend this memorable extravaganza!

  • 5.  See Jane Sing

You probably know Jane Lynch from “Glee”, where she played Sue Sylvester. She recently debuted on Broadway as Miss Hannigan in the hit musical “Annie”. Now, Jane is testing her comedy skills through music and promises to bring a show that is full of laughter, wit, and music. Come see Jane Lynch sing this Sunday at the Empire Theatre while she is in town. We’re confident that you won’t be disappointed in her hilarious “musical comedy”. Prepare for a laugh out loud experience!

  • 6.  Explore the Garden

The San Antonio Botanical Garden is currently showcasing “Winged Wonders”. Come explore the enchanting garden and see monarch butterflies, hummingbirds, and other winged friends. In addition to learning about pollinators, birds, and other animals, you get to visit the garden as many plants are in full bloom. Enjoy the experience as you walk through the garden and see thousands of plants and flowers. Special activities for children will be available, including guided tours, crafts, and the opportunity to meet a butterfly! You won’t want to miss this magical opportunity at the botanical garden.

  • 7.  File in for Free Wine

Who doesn’t love an opportunity for free wine? The Texas Treasures Art and Artisans Gallery invites you to an art walk as they showcase beautiful pieces by up-and-coming artists. The art varies from different paintings to pottery to furniture! As you walk through the gallery, sip on a glass of wine and relax as you view the breathtaking pieces all around you. It’s the perfect activity for a lazy Saturday. You will undoubtedly shop around and find something that needs to go home with you, whether it’s a bottle of wine or a piece of art!

  • 8.  Go Green!

Our world has increasingly raised efforts to “go green”. As such, San Antonio is showcasing several homes that truly embody the “green” persona. Through the Green Home Tour, you can embark on a self-guided tour of homes in San Antonio and see the multiple different ways that they are efficient in energy, construction, and even landscape. There are seven different homes on the tour, all in different areas of the city. Walk through each home, observe, and come see what it means to live in a green home!

  • 9.  Get Wild!

Many are familiar with the classic children’s book Where the Wild Things Are; in fact, the story is now a major motion picture. The classic illustrations have stuck with people for years and created childhood memories for many. San Antonio cocktail bar, The Last Word, and the San Antonio Library Foundation are teaming together to celebrate the writer/illustrator of this beloved story. The party is themed around the book and you are invited to come in costume and enjoy delicious cocktails, appetizers, and fun!

  • 10. Walk Like An Egyptian

San Antonio Museum of Art is hosting an Egyptian themed party with live music by the band Bombasta, tours of the Egyptian gallery, and a cash bar with specialty cocktails. It’s sure to be a memorable evening as you dance the night away in this Egyptian themed event. Feel free to adorn yourself with plenty of gold jewelry and eye makeup to get that “Cleopatra” look. If you buy admission to the museum itself, the party is free! Come enjoy the evening and see why the museum puts the “art” in “party”!
