One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series all pressure is off! Ten fun things to do in San Antonio will be chosen each week to make researching for the next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.
1. Witness a Slam Dunk with the Spurs vs. Lakers
It’s no secret that the San Antonio Spurs and LA Lakers are long-time basketball rivals. This weekend see these superstar teams face off at the AT&T center as they battle each other for a win. This is your opportunity to get out that Tim Duncan jersey and show your support for the San Antonio team while players like Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge will fire up the courts and the stands with their impressive skills. As always, a Spurs game is a guarantee for an exciting evening!

2. LOL Until You Cry
Who doesn’t love a good laugh that makes your stomach hurt or brings tears to your eyes? Jerry Seinfeld, world-renowned comedian and former star of the hit TV series Seinfeld, is coming to San Antonio to help you do just that! You won’t want to miss this rare event that is promised to evoke laughter and a good time. With a natural knack for comedy, Seinfeld has been around for years and will be in San Antonio for the weekend at the Majestic Theater. Tickets are on sale now and are assured to give audience members a true “LOL” experience.

3. Stroll Through the Park
San Antonio offers many outdoor activities and parks to allow residents to get active and experience the great outdoors. With such a mild winter thus far, take advantage of Brackenridge Park, located right along the San Antonio River. The park has an abundance of activities to offer, including bird watching, fishing, biking, playgrounds, and walking trails. Make a day out of it by visiting the Japanese Tea Garden (located within the park) or the adjacent Witte Museum.

4. Write a Love Letter at the Briscoe
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, what better way to put you in the mood than by writing a love letter to someone special? The Briscoe Museum is offering just that. The museum specifies in art, culture, and history of the American West and has organized an event where you can stop by and write a hand crafted love letter of your choosing. Books of poetry will be provided for inspiration and when you are finished, they will collect the letter and deliver it to your Valentine by bicycle. If you do not live in the geographical area for bike delivery, the Briscoe will mail your letter for you. Spread love across the San Antonio area by participating in this romantic and unique event anytime between February 1st-12th.

5. Savor Some Texas BBQ at Smoke
Known as some of the best BBQ in San Antonio, Smoke is located in the Stone Oak area and presents an atmosphere that distinguishes it from other “rustic” barbeque restaurants. Filled with interesting knick-knacks and beautiful furnishings, the restaurant is unique and defined with a menu to match. The barbeque at Smoke is more gourmet than some of its counterparts, offering a menu with items like the Thanksgiving Sandwich, Sexy BBQ Meatloaf, and Urban Cowboy BBQ Burger. Their fabulous drink menu makes it the perfect place for a date night for anyone who is craving some BBQ. 6. Cowboy Up at the Western Heritage Parade
Kick off rodeo season with the Western Heritage Parade and Cattle Drive! The parade stretches throughout a mile long route through downtown San Antonio and showcases Texas heritage while allowing viewers to get into the spirit of the San Antonio rodeo. Marching in the parade will be the Fort Hood Cavalry Division, Texas A&M Parson’s Mounted Cavalry, and plenty of Texas Longhorns. The parade begins at the Christus Santa Rosa Hospital and goes all the way to the Alamo. In addition to the parade, there will be games and activities fit for the whole family.

7. Dress to Impress
The Fashion Opera is hosting their annual showcase of the latest trends for the upcoming spring season. This “fashion arena” will inspire, entertain, and present you with new designs that provoke you to ponder the art of fashion. Additionally, the event will showcase the complexities and intricacies of fashion through perception and beauty. There’s no doubt that an evening with The Fashion Opera will leave you feeling inspired by the beautiful pieces of fashion “artwork” that will be showcased.

8. Enjoy Super Bowl Sunday Funday
Super Bowl Sunday is quickly approaching and hopefully you’ve made plans for the afternoon! If you plan on leaving the couch and settling in at a sports bar for some hot wings and beer, check out Little Woodrow’s for some fun and festivities. Not only does the bar have plenty of TV’s, but they also have horseshoes and various games to play on their enormous lawn area. When the sun starts to go down, warm up by one of their fire pits and relax during the evening.

9. Sip and Savor With a Wine Tasting
Riedel is hosting a wine tasting this Saturday and all wine connoisseurs are welcome to attend this fabulous event. Not only will you enjoy wines from Bending Branch Winery, the wine glass company will also explain and demonstrate how specific stemware can highlight and enhance certain wines and flavors. Hors d’oeuvres will be served to compliment the different wines and guests are allowed to take home a wine tasting set from Riedel to commemorate the experience.

10. Stare at the Stars
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching! For an early celebration idea, take your special someone stargazing at UTSA’s campus for a romantic evening. The observatory is open to the public, complete with telescopes, so that guests can star gaze at the night sky and experience astronomy like never before. Not into the romantic thing? No worries! This opportunity is open to everyone and is not a specialized Valentine’s Day event. Many astronomy enthusiasts are welcome to attend and learn more about the stars through the use of the equipment. The event is free and open every first Friday of the month so if you miss your chance this week, there’s always next month!
