Ten Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend (February 26-28)

One of San Antonio’s greatest upsides is the variety of “things” to see and do at any given time. This weekend is no exception as a variety of different events take place in and around the city. No effort is needed, ten of the best fun things to do in San Antonio this weekend are already described here. Hopefully this list will make researching for this weekend’s Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.

1.  Experience Bliss

Bliss is one of San Antonio’s best restaurants and constantly receives raving reviews. It serves contemporary American cuisine with a menu that is constantly changing seasonally. Owner and chef Mark Bliss is known to be one of the Southwest’s greatest chefs and has inspiring menu items like Lockhart quail and whole Mediterranean branzino. The casual yet chic atmosphere is perfect for a weekend date night and the eclectic menu offers something for everyone. Reservations are suggested for the weekend, as this restaurant tends to draw the crowds!

2.  Dance for a Good Cause

The Moussa Court #119 Charity Ball invites you to enjoy the evening while helping the Special Olympics and Toiletries for Families organizations. The evening consists of games, dancing, and dinner. San Antonio’s DJ KO KOpelli will provide the dance music for everyone and you can take the opportunity to get dressed up and go downtown. Enjoy the evening, and whether you are with friends or family, you’re sure to have a memorable night!

3. Watch Birds in Wonder

Start your Saturday off right with a sunrise bird walk at Hardberger Park. Three bird experts will serve as your guide in looking for local San Antonio birds common to the area. As a group, you can walk through the park (bring your own binoculars!) and identify different birds while enjoying the beautiful sunrise surrounded by nature. Best of all, this is a free event that would be fun for the whole family!

4.  Ride a Rollercoaster at Six Flags

This weekend marks the opening weekend for the Fiesta Texas 2016 season and its time to start off the season right! The park is officially open on February 27 and is allowing you to bring a friend for $14.99 with your season pass present. You could be first in line for any of the rollercoasters or rides this year and you are guaranteed to have fun! Who doesn’t want a Saturday filled with friends, funnel cake, and fun? Mark your calendars for the Fiesta Texas opening weekend and get ready for excitement and adventure!

5.  Delight in Classic Music with Downton Abbey

If you’re a fan of the BBC TV drama Downton Abbey, you are in for a treat this weekend. The San Antonio Choral Society is performing a tribute to Downton Abbey through an interactive concert. The performance features music from the show and the time period so you are bound to recognize some of music. In addition to enjoying the beautiful sounds of the choir, you are also welcome to dress up as your favorite Downton Abbey character, or in period clothing of the early 1900s. Start practicing your British accent for this interactive concert!

6.  Decorate and Design a Cake

Love to bake? Want to improve upon your cake decorating skills? AGS Cake Supplies offers regular classes on cake decorating skills. You can enroll in “Building Buttercream Skills” or “Flowers & Cake Design.” Both classes would be fine for any beginner and teach basic skills for each concept. The classes are designed to be fun and interactive for each baker but do require you to bring your own supplies. It’s the perfect way to learn or improve upon your baking skills! Classes are taught by trained bakers who will work with you to perfect your cake decorating skills.

7. Experience the Making of Texas

Rivercenter Mall has a new attraction that every Texan needs to check out. Battle for Texas: The Experience is now open and allows guests to encounter and discover how Texas became a state with the Battle of the Alamo. The exhibit features artifacts and re-enactments, allowing the audience to experience through sights, sounds, and smells. Not only is this attraction brand new, but also features artifacts that have never been seen before by the public. Every true Texan may know the story of the Alamo, but you haven’t experienced it like this before!

When: Monday-Saturday (10AM-9PM); Sunday (12PM-6PM)

8. Raise the Roof and Grab a Drink

If you’re looking for a stylish place to spend a weekend evening, look no further than Paramour. The rooftop bar has an atmosphere that combines city chic with elegance. Space heaters, fire, and cozy furniture will keep you warm, even on a winter night. The outstanding drink menu features high quality liquor and creatively crafted cocktails like “Trophy Wife” and “Call Me Cait.” In addition to cocktails, the bar also has wine, beer, and coffee to offer variety for every customer. 9. Sing Along to a Country Song

You may have seen him on “The View” or “Late Night with Seth Meyers”, but country singer Chris Stapleton is due to perform at the rodeo this Saturday, singing songs from his latest album Traveller. Rodeo season is almost over and this could be your last chance to join in on the fun. Chris Stapleton won Male Vocalist of the Year last year and has received four Grammy nominations. His songs are sure to get you out of your seat, singing along. Don’t miss this awesome event or the chance to see the San Antonio rodeo one last time!

10.  Dance the Dance of the Irish

Riverdance begins its 20th anniversary tour, bringing Irish dance back to the stage once again. The performers utilize Irish culture in a strong mix of dance, music, and song. The show draws on Irish traditions and this is shown through the spectacular nature of each dancer in their movement and sound. Riverdance is currently on World Tour and is a popular phenomenon that crowds enjoy. This year, Riverdance will be held at the Majestic Theatre and promises to be a show full of captivating performers.
