Ten Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend (February 12-14)

One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. With Valentine’s Day on Sunday, this week’s focus is helping you plan the perfect date night in the city or allowing you and your single friends to find something fun to do! All the pressure is off to make 2016 your best Valentine’s Day yet, because we’ve done the work for you! Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

1.  Kick Off Rodeo Season Right

Rodeo season in San Antonio has officially begun! This weekend, you have two wonderful options for entertainment at the AT&T Center. On Friday night, country singer Martina McBride will be performing songs from her Everlasting album. She is a four-time winner of the Female Vocalist of the Year from the Country Music Association and has sold over 18 million albums. If country music isn’t your thing, Pitbull is performing on Saturday night and is sure to get the crowd going with his lively music, known worldwide. Whichever show you choose to attend, the San Antonio Rodeo is sure to offer plenty of entertainment.

2.  Serenade Through Song

Romance is in the air and what better way to serenade your Valentine than through song? Villa Finale is offering a small, intimate concert with singer Ken Slavin and live piano music to accompany. Slavin is a San Antonio resident and is known as a crooner of jazz and cabaret. This concert is perfect for your date night and will feature popular love songs from artists like Frank Sinatra and Cole Porter. To make the atmosphere better, the concert will be performed in the various parlors of a home in the King William historic district of San Antonio. Seating is limited for this event so reserve your spot quickly to ensure a romantic evening.

3.  Feel Like You’ll Never Grow Up

If you want to feel youthful and fun this Valentine’s Day weekend, purchase a ticket to see the Ballet San Antonio perform Peter Pan. This performance will bring adventure and magic as it showcases the whimsical world of Never Never Land and promises to be a show that the entire family can enjoy. Exquisite costumes, impressive music, and phenomenal choreography will leave you feeling transported back to your childhood.

When: February 12 @ 7:30PM; February 13 @ 2PM & 7:30PM; February 14 @ 2PM

4.  Run to Cupid!

If your goal this weekend is to spend time outside or exercise, Community Options is hosting the annual Cupid’s Chase 5K run. The run raises money and awareness for people with disabilities and has already raised over $5,000 for the cause. Fun T-shirts will be given on a first come, first serve basis and you can even choose to start a team for the race, rather than run alone. With sunshine and warm temps on the way, the Cupid Chase is the perfect way to get involved in the community and support a worthy cause.

5.  Cruise in a Carriage

Cruise around San Antonio in style this Valentine’s Day with one of the many carriage companies downtown. There is a multitude to choose from but some of the most well known include Lollypop Carriage Company, Bluebonnet Carriage Company, and Lone Star Carriage. Any of these offer a memorable experience and tour of downtown San Antonio. Blankets are provided during cold weather, allowing you and your Valentine to snuggle up and enjoy the beautiful scenery and sights. Reservations are recommended for this experience just to ensure that you have a spot during the busy weekend!

6.  Explore the Animal Kingdom!

Sea World is kicking off its “Wild Days” event that brings in celebrity wildlife specialists in to explain, educate, and showcase beautiful animals of the wild. This is a perfect family event that will allow kids to learn more about wildlife, while permitting them to get up close and personal with the animals. This weekend promises that a lucky audience member will be invited on stage to participate in the show. If you can’t make it this weekend, there are still two more weekends to experience the wonder of Wild Days at Sea World.

When: February 13 @12PM-6PM

7.  Go Out Single and Ready to Mingle

If Valentine’s Day isn’t your thing and you hate the idea of going somewhere plagued with romance and couples, look no further than Love Sux! The dance party will be held at Howl at the Moon and features drinks, games, and live music, fit for all singles of San Antonio. There will be free admission until ten o’clock for those who bring a torn photo of an ex. Enjoy being single and come to dance the night away with other San Antonians who want to forget about the “mushy” holiday.

8.  Satisfy your Taste Buds at Silo

If you’re looking for a swanky restaurant with a fabulous menu for your date night, look no further than Silo. With two locations, one at Alamo Heights and one at 1604/Stone Oak, Silo offers variety and complexity in their menu, while managing to maintain a classic feel in atmosphere. Dishes like “Shrimp and Grits” or the “Signature Chicken Fried Oysters” come across as unique, while the “Pan Seared Chicken” and “Grilled Duck Breast” keep some tradition to the restaurant. 9.   Eat Dinner with a Ghost

If an unconventional Valentine’s Day is calling your name, the Sister’s Grimm Ghost Tours are promising a night you’ll never forget. First up is a romantic three-course meal, lit by candlelight in the Menger Hotel downtown. Afterwards, a tour guide will walk you through the hotel and give you a brief history on some of the chilling ghosts that are said to still haunt the old building. Take a step into the past with your loved one this year and make it a night to remember!

10.  Learn a New Craft

This weekend you have the opportunity to step into the world of glass blowing and learn the tips and tricks of the trade. Somewhat of a lost art, the experts at Caliente Hot Glass will share their knowledge and allow you to see hand-blown glass and sculpture. This date is definitely one of a kind and promises to be interesting and fun; you may even take home a souvenir in the process!
