Ten Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend (August 26-28)

One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series, all pressure is off! Ten fun things to do in San Antonio will be chosen each week to make researching for the next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.

  • 1.  Rock Out

The timeless rock band Pink Floyd is known worldwide for iconic psychedelic music and songs that reached the souls of their fans. Come out for Bricks in the Wall—a concert that creates the sights and sounds of Pink Floyd, giving you the ultimate fan experience. This event recreates the band’s distinctive flair and their edgy vibe. What better place to reminisce on rock music than the Aztec Theatre? Doors for the show will open at 7 PM, but the actual concert doesn’t start until 8. Get your ticket fast to ensure a seat for this incredible event!

  • 2.  Learn the Wonders of Wildlife

As temperatures begin to cool slightly (fingers crossed...), spend some time outside this weekend at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. They are having a Wildscaping event that allows you to learn about landscaping your yard for wildlife and conserving water in the process. This valuable class will teach you about San Antonio’s wildlife, climate, and other helpful tips for making your backyard a perfect picturesque place. Take time to stroll the garden grounds afterwards and enjoy a beautiful day!

  • 3.  Have a Beer and See a Car Show

Alamo Beer Company Brewery brings you a unique event combination this weekend: come out and enjoy craft beers from the brewery while you roam the European car show on site! This fun day features BBQ, funnel cake, raffles, and of course, beer and cars! All proceeds from this fabulous event will be donated to the American Wounded Heroes organization so you’ll be supporting a great cause by attending! Don’t miss out on some specialty brews and cars!

  • 4.  See A Winning Film

This weekend, come to San Antonio Museum of Art for a free film outside. The feature film “No” is the 2012 Cannes winner and follows the story of the 1988 Chile Referendum dictator. This political film tells the story beautifully and artistically and offers the audience a different perspective as a viewer. You are welcome to bring snacks, a picnic, blankets, and pillows. Be sure to grab some cash for the cash bar that will be providing drinks during the evening. Enjoy a relaxing evening on the lawn!

  • 5.  Sample Flavors and Experience Tastes

Tantalize your taste buds with Whiskey Business, a fun event that allows you to sample different wines and whiskies as you learn about the diverse flavors each drink contains. Even if you know nothing of whiskey or beer, an expert who can help you decipher the tastes will educate you. O’Dell Brewing Company hosts and promises to teach you about the distillery process and the steps for their craft. It’s an evening of socialization that will take place in the Jack Guenther Pavilion at the Briscoe Museum. The beautiful setting will make you want to dress up as you experience all of the different flavors.

  • 6.  Support the Food Bank

The San Antonio Food Bank is a wonderful nonprofit organization that provides food to those in need in a community. In addition to having multiple locations across the city, they currently have a Farmer’s Market that works to ensure neighborhoods have access to fresh fruits and vegetables and a diverse supply. They have three different markets, all across San Antonio. Take time this weekend to support the amazing organization to ensure its growth and sustainment. Chances are, one of the three markets is close by to you! Shop, explore, and stock up on produce!

  • 7.  Dance Through Decades

Throwback Thursday may be a trending hashtag, but get ready to throw it back this Friday during the X-Factor Rocks dance party. The X-Factor band will be performing hit songs from the 80s and 90s. Jam out with a group of friends and dance the night away as you enjoy discounted prices on drinks and amazing music that you know and love. The live music is the perfect way to kick off your weekend, unwind, and enjoy the evening. Best of all, there’s no cover fee for the night!

Photography is a stunning art form that doesn’t always get recognition here in San Antonio. Experience the stunning quality of work at Foto Septiembre USA SAFOTO. This unique festival brings an eclectic group of photos together for an exhibit and a celebration of photography as an art form. View beautiful pieces of art all in one place. Artists from all over the San Antonio and Hill Country area will be present to represent their work. Expose yourself to something new this weekend and experience the photography presented.

  • 9.  Get A Hole in One

Get ready for The Flame of Hope Golf Tournament fundraiser! San Antonio’s local law enforcement and public safety team run this event. The ultimate goal of the tournament is to bring people in the community together while also supporting and raising awareness for Special Olympic athletes in Texas. You can be a sponsor, get a team of four together, or just register for yourself! It’s an 18-hole course, and you even get lunch and a goodie bag for participating! Don’t miss out on the door prizes or silent auction afterwards either! Come out and support a great cause.

  • 10.  Stomp the Grapes

If you’ve ever wanted to stomp grapes and watch the process of making grapes into wine, now is your chance! That moment is waiting for you at The Messina Hof Hill Country Winery Harvest Festival. The winery offers an amazing day of fun for the entire family! Come out and stomp the grapes that get made into the delicious Port wine. There will be a dinner served afterwards, and you can taste several different wines. Get competitive with a grape picking contest to see who can pick grapes the fastest! It’s a day of fun with multiple different activities going on! Get your ticket before you arrive to ensure your spot in the exciting events.
