Ten Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend (August 19-21)

One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series, all pressure is off! Ten fun things to do in San Antonio will be chosen each week to make researching for the next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.

  • 1.  Re-Do Summer Camp

Do you ever find yourself reminiscing on your glorious days of summer camp? Nostalgic for s’mores, campfires, and summertime fun? Well, get ready for the summer camp redo, hosted by the Do Se um. This adults-only event invites you to relish in summer camp with a twist. You can build your own s’more at the s’mores bar, have a signature cocktail, enjoy camp crafts, take some pics in the photo booth, and tell a scary story at the open mic contest! You’ll love the activities and games included in the night and it’s the perfect opportunity to be silly and adventurous as you meet new people. Get ready for your childhood to make an appearance!

  • 2.  Find A Treasure in Theatre

Get ready for the classic novel Treasure Island to come alive on stage this weekend with the Magik Theatre’s opening of the play! This adventure story has pirates, sword fights, exploration at sea, and of course, treasure! San Antonio actors will portray classic characters like Long John Silver and it’s a play that audiences of all ages will fall in love with.   • 3.  Discover Pokemon Art

Art Off the Wall is a recurring program that features San Antonio “non-art experts” discussing their work and the different ways they are inspired. This week’s installment showcases the pop-culture obsession of Pokemon and how much of Pokemon is originated through folklore or myth. The art that is presented will obviously be centered on Pokemon, its evolvement, and its relation to cultures around the world. Pokemon and art will be colliding this weekend in this unique and fascinating art event.

  • 4.  Hear the Voice

The popular TV show The Voice has been going on for years and has produced numerous singers that make it big. Season 8 winner Sawyer Fredericks is a national phenomenon with many talents. This singer, songwriter, and musician is coming to the Tobin Center for an amazing concert that features some of his post popular songs. Fredericks is definitely one of the show’s most successful contestants and has been on the iTunes Top 200 Songs countless times. Get a ticket to see this soulful singer and you won’t be disappointed!

  • 5.  Shop the Market

The Brick Marketplace offers a wide variety of items such as jewelry, greeting cards and stationary, vintage fashion, antiques, and oddities that you can’t find many places! Come stroll the market this Sunday afternoon and leisurely enjoy yourself as you shop. The market even has a beer, wine, sherry, and champagne bar that is available for guests. This artsy area will have you feeling creative and unique as you shop all of the different items at your own pace. It’s a great opportunity to support local San Antonio businesses in a fun area of town.

  • 6.  Celebrate Books

It’s time for the Texas Book Festival’s Literary Libations Week, going on right now! Friday night is your last opportunity to support the organization by going to one of San Antonio’s hotspot bars (including Paramour, Botika, Esquire Tavern, and more) and ordering a signature cocktail. Drink names will be inspired by classic works of literature and every drink you buy will give profits to the annual Lit Crawl happening later during this year. Come support books by getting a drink!

  • 7.  Pay Tribute to 1964

If you’re a Beatles fan, you’re not going to want to miss “1964”, the tribute to the Beatles. The show features popular songs from the early sixties, specifically 1964. This musical journey will have you reminiscing on all of the famous songs that we all know and love. The performing band is the only band with permission to present Beatles music all over the world. It’s an amazing homage to the band that paved the way for music and changed so many lives across the world.

  • 8.  Shop and Dine at the Quarry

When most people want to shop in San Antonio, they think of La Cantera. Head out towards the Quarry this weekend for some different shops and a different atmosphere. While you’re out, make sure to stop in Piatti for a delicious Italian lunch, brunch, or dinner. After a morning of shopping, you’ll love the bruschetta, gnocchi, or delicious homemade pasta. While it’s not a new restaurant, it’s unique to San Antonio and is hidden amongst all the little shops. Stop in for a bite!

  • 9.  Get Your Reggae On

If you’re a fan of Bob Marley or reggae in general, you won’t want to miss out on San Antonio ’s Reggae Festival this weekend! There will be live reggae bands and different artists/performers. Throughout the day so that you can dance and sing along to some of the most popular songs that you know and love while enjoying a fun atmosphere of drinks, food, and games for the kids! Various vendors will be available for the day and there will even be a playground! Get excited for the fun!

  • 10.  Hold ‘Em

Practice your poker face because the Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament is going on this weekend for anyone interested. If you feel like your poker game is strong and you want to help benefit the American Cancer Society, head over to Canyon Springs Golf Course for an evening of food, drinks, and Texas Hold ‘Em. Be careful not to bluff!
