#KW10Q: Talking Tequila and Building a Business with Maggie Wilmoth

This month, we recognize Maggie Wilmoth as our rising star. A new agent within the San Antonio real estate game, Maggie burst onto the scene in full force in March of 2013. Within 9 months she had closed a whopping 19 transactions and was creating a name for herself. Most recently, she was awarded the newcomer of the year award by Platinum Top 50. In addition to her admirable production numbers, Maggie is a beacon of light in the community. A native San Antonian, Maggie is active with The Junior League of San Antonio. A leader in everything she does, she is currently participating in the 2015 Texas REALTORS® Leadership Program, a program designed to develop community and organizational leaders to become contributors to their community and businesses and enrich their personal and professional lives.

Q1: What did you do before real estate?

I’ve only ever had fun jobs! I worked as a sales and marketing rep for a national liquor distributor and then went on to work as a supplier for high end spirit brands. Most recently I was a sales and marketing manager for a tequila company. I was planning on going to either law school or real estate school. Real estate school was much faster and much cheaper!

Q2: How did you choose KW?

I knew KW was the right choice for me IMMEDIATELY during my first meeting with my team leader, AmyKW culture was (and is) the right fit for me. There is a business model and a culture I respect, but what I find fascinating are the universal principles that I’ve learned. I’ve been taught not only how to build a business, but how to be a better person and have a better life. I totally drank the KW Kool-aid.

Q3: What has been your biggest challenge so far?

Believing and accepting the limitless opportunities for success in this business. That the opportunities out there ARE FOR ME. That I CAN change my family tree. That I CAN build a business with a legacy for my family. No one ever told me that!

Q4: What has been your biggest reward so far?

I am humbled and grateful beyond measure that I get to be a part of such an emotional, intimate milestone for my clients. There’s nothing like handing a first time buyer their keys, or seeing the smile of relief on a seller’s face when their home is sold. Another huge reward for me is that I had not been able to say "I LOVE MY JOB” for many years before I started in real estate. I know it sounds cheesy, but I can honestly say that every day now.

Q5: What has been the biggest benefactor in your success?

Incredible mentors and these crazy KW people telling me how awesome I can be. From day one I have been treated as if I were a rock star, top producing agent- even before I closed one transaction!

Q6: Where do you find inspiration?

My mom, Joyce. She raised me as a single mom on a USAF airman’s salary. I never even realized we were (financially) poor. She is a pillar of faith, strength and perseverance. She has defied all logic, successfully battling lupus (SLE) and everything it’s brought with it for 30+ years. She is happy and loving, a woman of unshakeable faith in God. I don’t have a word that’s good enough to describe her.

Q7: What is your favorite thing about San Antonio?

The people! The food! The Spurs! Downtown! Fiesta! The culture! Having grown up here, I have seen San Antonio become a world class city and I am so proud to call this place my home.

Q8: Name one thing we might not know about you.

I put myself through college as a bartender and promotional model. I was part of the Texas Bikini Team, and modeled for Hawaiian Tropic, Budweiser and many, many a bikini calendar.

Q9: What is your favorite restaurant?

That’s tough. I love good food. I love exceptional service. I love craft cocktails. I love small plates and communal dining. It’s hard to narrow it down to one, but Turquoise Mediterranean Grill, Bohanan’s, and Pacific Moon are definitely favorites... and Hot Joy!

Q10: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Our youngest child, Lilly Grace, will be going off to college!  Our other daughter, Savannah, will have become an amazing woman and will probably be traveling the world!  I will be taking vacations with my husband… often. My (real estate) business will be thriving. I will be giving and will have given... a lot. Maybe I will move downtown! Maybe I will go to law school! Maybe I will run for office!
