One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend, it can seem overwhelming to choose just one! 1. Light Up the Night at the Zoo

Each year during the holiday season, the San Antonio Zoo is open nightly, allowing you and your family the chance to walk around, admiring the twinkling glow of the amazing light display. Sip hot chocolate while you wander and take time to roast s’mores. This year, there will even be an ice-skating rink and camel rides!

2. See a Twist on the Classic Christmas Carol

Everyone knows the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim...right? This Charles Dickens story “A Christmas Carol” is full of Christmas spirit, but this new adaptation has a few tweaks and twists! In this new version, the play is being performed by a company of traveling actors who suddenly discover that Scrooge and Tiny Tim are gone, abandoning the tour! They embark on a search and are eventually pulled into the lives of the two characters, learning more about them along the way. You’ll love this spin on a classic story!

3. Experience the Holidays In Bloom

The San Antonio Botanical Garden invites you to experience their annual Holidays In Bloom. This is your chance to see the gorgeous seasonal flowers that the garden showcases, perfect for family pictures and Instagram opportunities. You’ll find countless spots for photos and a peaceful atmosphere as you stroll through the garden. Take a chance to slip away from the chaos and busyness of the season as you spend time in nature. Luckily, the garden is open all month and the seasonal plants are available for the month of December for you to experience.

4. Celebrate at Sea World

Every year, SeaWorld pulls out all of the stops for their Christmas Celebration. This holiday event goes on all month and features Christmas shows, plenty of lights, Santa Claus, food, Rudolph, and fun, family memories for everyone. Make sure you take time to visit the park this Christmas season; we promise it’ll be a night to remember!

5. See the Magical Show

Hopefully, you know the classic 1968 movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang…if not, now you have the chance to see the Woodlawn Theater perform it live! The story follows an inventor who sets to restore an old race car. He and his family quickly discover that it is a magic car with the ability to fly. Told with memorable songs, hilarious moments, and a strong message at the end, this classic story will leave you smiling. It’s the perfect play to bring your kids to and we promise fun for the whole family!

6. Walk through Downtown San Antonio

Get ready to see downtown like you’ve never seen it before! With the Holiday Light s Walking Tour, experience different cultures through lights and slowly sip a hot beverage as you make your way through the River Walk and downtown area. Ride on a private riverboat and bask in the beauty of all of the lights. After the boat ride, there will be a short history of San Antonio near the San Fernando Cathedral, known as the heart of the city. There are a limited number of seats available for this particular event, so make sure to call and reserve your spot!

7. See Christmas In a Cave

Natural Bridge Caverns celebrates Christmas at the Caverns this December. The event includes caroling in the caverns, hayrides, s’mores, hot chocolate, Santa’s reindeer, a maze, an obstacle course, and zip lines that allow you to soar above the trees! This is a one-stop-shop that promises tons of fun and activities for your kids. You’ll love the scenic views, the magic of the caverns, and the exciting Christmas atmosphere all around.

8. Head to Fiesta Texas for the Holidays

Fiesta Texas has so many great things happening this holiday season! With nightly caroling, their new Winter Wonderland, North Pole Reflections, a Holiday Express train ride, Hometown Holidays, and more, you’ll have an abundance of things to do if you visit! Additionally, this year the park is having a Snow Day, presented by Hallmark. It’s going to be the world’s largest snowball fight with plush snow! This is happening on December 9 but all of the other holiday events will occur during park hours, all throughout the month of December! Get your ticket and get ready for holiday fun.

9. Indulge Your Sweet Tooth

The holidays are definitely a time for every sweet tooth out there! This year, experience a night of dessert with Dulce. The event will be held at the Jack Guenther Pavilion at the Briscoe, where you’ll be able to feast on delicious treats from all over San Antonio’s best chocolatiers and bakeries. Try the macaroons, churros, cookies, milkshakes, hot cocoa, and more! Sip on a hot toddy, candy rimmed cocktails, and coffee as you enjoy each and every treat. During the evening, there will be goods for purchase, interactive art, live music, and a DJ for the entire evening. This is a charitable event that will serve to benefit the Briscoe Western Art Museum.

10. See a Holiday Ballet

The Nutcracker is the most famous holiday ballet, a tradition that many will see every year. Held at the Tobin Center, this year’s performance will be no different: classic, remarkable, and magical. The ballet tells the story of Clara, her new Nutcracker doll that she receives for Christmas, and the amazing world of toys that she stumbles into. Fall in love with the story and the magic that surrounds it.

11. Fall into Your Favorite Childhood Story

You may remember laughing hysterically through the bestselling children’s book The Best Christmas Pageant Ever...well, now, that famous children’s book is becoming a play with the Magik Theatre! The story follows the Herdman siblings, (also known as the worst kids ever) as they manage to take over the annual Christmas pageant. The play follows their hilarious journeys and situations they put themselves into. Get ready to laugh and maybe even cry with this heartwarming story!

12. Carol on the River Walk

The San Antonio river spans 2.5 miles, and we want you to help carol all the way! With the Ford Holiday boat parade, more than 185 different groups come together to perform live Christmas carols. Help sing along, whether you’re on the River Walk or a boat. Stroll the banks of the river, make a dinner reservation on one of the many riverside restaurants, and enjoy the sounds of Christmas with this fun, San Antonio tradition.

13. Harvest Pecans for the Season

You’re invited to join in on the annual Pecan Harvest, a fundraiser recognizing The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. The whole evening is pecan themed, specifically focusing on indigenous pecan-inspired food and beverages. The fundraiser wants to recognize the amazing contribution to the Sisters of Charity have made in regards to the Coahuiltecan people. You will have the chance to win door prizes and raffles. 14. Light the Way

The University of the Incarnate Word will be hosting their annual Light the Way event to celebrate the start of the holiday season. This event recognizes the school, the amazing years of tradition, and the education of young people. Come out and take a leisurely stroll along the campus and get in the holiday spirit with all of the beautiful, twinkling lights.

15. See Laser Lights

Get ready for a light show unlike any other! This will be Urban-15’s 14th annual Holiday Laser Show, a spectacular event of choreographed laser beams and colorful animation performed to all of the greatest holiday songs. This year, they are offering their first ever free matinee performance to the public on Sunday, December 3 (at 4:00 PM). Get excited about the abstract visuals and holiday-themed lights. This really is a holiday event unlike anything else, and it takes “twinkling lights” to a whole new level!

16. Have Breakfast with Santa

Have you ever wanted to have breakfast with Santa Claus? Now, you can at Dave & Buster’s! The breakfast will include a full buffet of eggs, muffins, bagels, sausage, potatoes, juice, and coffee. Stop by for a tamale and allow it to be a tradition for you and your family!

18. Celebrate Holidays Around the World

UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures is giving you the chance to experience more of an international holiday. Students participating in the Global Exchange program will be showcasing how the holiday season is done in their home country. They will dress in traditional clothing from their home countries, discuss traditions, perform a play, and the Children’s Ballet will even have a performance. This cultural event celebrates holidays from all around the world and will allow you a new education on the subject.

19. See A Charlie Brown Christmas

Everyone knows and loves the classic Charlie Brown Christmas. This year, the Magik Theatre returns with their own production at the Empire Theatre. They’ll adapt the classic TV special and bring it to life for you as the audience. They’ll tell the story of Charlie Brown directing the Christmas pageant and attempting to restore the true holiday spirit and the meaning of Christmas. Set to live music, this production will give you all the warm fuzzies and make your heart light for the Christmas season!

20. Experience Christmas with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra

The world-famous Trans-Siberian Orchestra is currently on their 2017 Winter Tour. This critically acclaimed and multi-platinum powerhouse is a must-see for any music lover. Now known as a holiday tradition to some, the Orchestra will be in San Antonio for one night only. This is your chance to see them live and fully embrace the Christmas music of the season. 21. Take a Ride on Santa’s Railroad

Everyone knows about the 1954 movie White Christmas with Bing Crosby. The story follows a song and dance team and their goal of putting on a show in Vermont (while falling for a sister act in the process). With songs that we all know and love (including, “Happy Holiday”, “Snow”, and many more), this musical is full of holiday fun. Now, it’s coming to life on the stage of the Majestic Theatre, reenacted by Broadway. You’ll love the joy and merriment included in this family-friendly musical.

23. Make a Memory at Quarry Village

Save the date for the Holiday Block Party at Quarry Village! Bring your kids so that they can play with real snow, watch as they light the Christmas tree, and experience holiday carols and free photos with Santa. Bring a toy donation to give to Boysville and enjoy complimentary refreshments and music. This is an awesome free event that will help get you into the holiday spirit!

24. Countdown to the New Year

The DoSeum always has the best events for kids and this New Year’s Eve is no different! This year, the museum is hosting a Kids Countdown with a safari theme! Roar into 2018 with this exploration theme. The day will include face painting, music, a safari, and of course, the classic ball drop at noon. Bring in the New Year and allow your child to take part in it!

25. Ring in the New Year Sinatra Style

For a classy way to ring in the New Year, head over to Messina Hof Hill Country Winery for a Rat Pack New Year’s Eve Bash! You can even book one of their cottages to rent out for the evening so that you don’t have to drive back into the city.
