One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series all pressure is off! Twenty five fun things to do in San Antonio will be chosen each month to make researching for the next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple. 1. Celebrate The Year Of The Dog

This month is marked with several Asian traditions, and The Institute of Texan Cultures hopes to ring in the Chinese New Year with an exciting celebration. 2018 is the Year of the Dog, and the daylong event will include games, dancing, martial arts, shopping, and plenty of food and music. Bring your kids to enjoy Chinese crafts and various displays. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about another culture and start new traditions.

2. Get Ready To Rodeo, San Antonio!
When February rolls around, every true San Antonioan knows what that means: It’s rodeo season! This year’s impressive lineup consists of major artists like Gary Allan, Rascal Flatts, The Goo Goo Dolls, Casting Crowns, the Josh Abbott Band, and so many more! In addition to these amazing performers, be sure and take time to watch all of the horse and livestock shows, ride the carnival rides, and of course, eat something fried. It’s a true San Antonio tradition that comes welcomed every year!

3. Dress Up For Fashion
Calling all fashion lovers! Sonterra Country Club is hosting a black history fashion show that will highlight a multitude of San Antonio designers. Models will showcase the clothes while guests partake in a delicious dinner. Be sure to dress appropriately, as the evening includes a black tie dress code. Tickets are currently priced at $30-$50.

4. Send A Love Letter To Your Valentine

With love in the air and Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, what better way to get in the spirit of Valentine’s Day than sending a love letter to someone in your life? The Briscoe Museum hosts their annual event: Pony Express Love Letters, a movement to spread love across the city. You can drop by anytime during the 1st and 11th to write your own letter and let yourself be inspired by the poetry around you. After that, the letters will be delivered by bicycle to your love on Valentine’s Day. This old-fashioned event is romantic and unique so don’t miss out on your chance to send a letter!

5. Watch A Foodie Movie
The San Antonio Botanical Garden is hosting a “foodie” themed film event, and the first movie up on their list is “Chocolat”, the culinary film about a woman who opens up a unique chocolate shop in France. This seems like the perfect, romantic date night for any couple. To top it off, sample recipes and paired wines will be available before the movie screening begins!

6. Start Your Weekend With A Smooth Note

We’ve got another great date idea for you to kick off your weekend! Gin and Jazz is hosted by Embassy Suites and offers an extended happy hour on their terrace, as well as live jazz music by Ruby Alexander and the Bonafide Playboys. Known for their smooth sounds and effortless rhythm, you’ll quickly fall in love with this jazz band and all that they have to offer. It’s a spectacular date for any couple and promises to impress!

7. Prepare For A Spring Season
Spring is around the corner and along with it, Monarch butterfly season. Come out to the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center for an educational program that aims to teach the benefits of planting pollinator plants like milkweed. This variety of plant helps monarchs and other pollinator insects to live their life cycle fully. It’s the perfect educational activity for interested kids and costs the small fee of $10!

8. Kick Off The Rodeo With A Parade

Rodeo season is upon us, and there’s no better way to kick off the season than through the Western Heritage Parade. This free event will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The parade goes through the streets of downtown and contains characters who represent someone historic from our Lone Star State. See the Fort Hood 1st Cavalry Division, the Texas Heritage Riders, and the Texas Longhorns. Don’t forget to join for breakfast at La Villita!

9. Experience Russian Folk Dance
The world-renowned group Barynya will make an appearance here in San Antonio this month! Known for their cultural Russian folk dancing, the group performs exciting routines on stage to music. Over the years, they’ve been invited to countless special events at Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian, and the Russian Embassy. You’ll love their premiere performance and the culture that they quickly bring to the stage.

10. Cheer On Your Super Bowl Team
Get ready to cheer on your favorite team while you watch this year’s super bowl. There are many great options of where you can go to watch the game but Dave & Buster’s has the most exciting offer! 11. Watch A Tony Award Winning Play
If you’ve ever read Alice Walker’s magnificent story “The Color Purple”, then you know that it tells of the American South and a young woman’s journey. Now, that Pulitzer-Prize-winning story has been turned into a musical. As an audience member, you can feel the power of the story through the spectacular jazz music and memorable songs. This musical won the 2016 Tony Award and has received so much recognition since then. You won’t want to miss out on this spectacular musical at The Majestic.

12. Celebrate Mardi Gras

It’s almost time for Mardi Gras, and San Antonio offers two fun events for you to attend! The first event is an artisan show, where over 40 different artists will come out to sell their gorgeous handmade items. You can expect to see jewelry, pottery, paintings, woodwork, and so much more. The second option is a parade on the River Walk! Come out and watch the procession of decorated river boats as they float down the river to music. Everyone attending is encouraged to wear a mask and of course, your mardi gras beads. There will be plenty of food around and live music to keep the party going!

13. Take A Trip To The McNay
The McNay Art Museum has so much to offer this month! Two of their current exhibits will be closing on February 4th, which include Tim Burton’s “Nightmare Before Christmas” exhibit and “Stage Frights: Madness, Monsters, and Mayhem”. With that being said, several other exhibits are going on right now that you still have plenty of time for. There will be a “Journey Down the Mississippi” sketchbook exhibit, as well as a second exhibit focused on the history of printmaking in San Antonio. For black history month, the McNay will present a fabulous historical exhibition on 100 years of African American Art. You can also see a piece on sexism, America, and Haiti’s art revolution. With so many options, you may find yourself going back every weekend in February!

14. Get In The Mood For Love

Looking for a fun Valentine’s Day themed party? Get in the mood for love with Art Party’s Give Me Love event. This event is a fun collaboration between the San Antonio Museum of Art and Jazz channel 91.7. There will be gallery tours of the museum with art centered around the theme of love, cocktails, dancing, music, and art. Gaze under the stars for a memorable night with your date and get in the spirit of Valentine’s Day.

15. Experience Sea World This Season
No doubt you’ve visited Sea World during the summer months, but have you ever been during the winter or early spring? Sea World opens its doors on February 24 this year, just in time for plenty of family fun. San Antonio is known for having great weather; so if there’s a weekend of sun and above average temps, don’t forget about Sea World as a great place to spend the day outside. Animal encounters, exciting shows, thrilling rides, and educational experiences await you and your family!

16. Make A Date For Valentine’s Day
Looking for a hip restaurant to take your date to on Valentine’s Day? Look no further than Battalion in downtown San Antonio! What was once an old fire station is now a beautiful and trendy new restaurant that boasts homemade pastas and fabulous cocktails. Known for unique dishes like grilled octopus, celery root ravioli, and pumpkin lasagne, your taste buds will be in heaven here. It’s quite popular, so reservations are recommended.

17. Celebrate the Tricentennial
Come out and celebrate the tricentennial with a special exhibit at the San Antonio Museum of Art. The museum will showcase the rich culture and history of our great city and contextualize the story of the city’s founding. The exhibition is organized into three different sections: People and Places, The Cycle of Life, and The Church. 1718 may be the year that San Antonio was founded, but 2018 is the year to celebrate!

18. Cast a Lantern

Lanterns on the Water is an event on the River Walk that showcases Asian culture and allows you to take time to reflect on your hopes, wishes, dreams, and loved ones. The Asian tradition of casting lanterns onto water dates back hundreds of years. Now, you can be a part of the tradition by casting your own lantern out! Pens will be made available so that you can personalize your lantern. Music, dancing, and food will accompany the gorgeous display of dreams and light. Make time in your schedule for this wonderful event.

19. Prepare For Spring With A Bird Walk
Spring is all about embracing new life and growth, and what better way to welcome the season than through an exciting bird walk? The Mitchell Lake Audubon Center will teach you basic beard identification, how to use binoculars, and which plants attract wildlife. Come out and learn more about nature and get ready for the season of spring.

20. Dance The Night Away At Messina Hof
The most romantic Valentine’s Day evening awaits you at Messina Hof Hill Country winery. Enjoy a romantic three-course meal, paired with the winery’s signature glass of red. 21. Listen To A Classic Trifecta
The Tob in Center will host three modern composers in one evening in honor of the tricentennial! 22. Get Jazzy On The River Walk
Get your jazz fix with the new event Jazz on the River! During the weekend of February 10-13, you can enjoy live jazz music on the San Antonio River Walk as a variety of jazz musicians and bands float down the river, playing smooth tunes. This is a perfect opportunity to book a table at your favorite restaurant to enjoy the lovely music during a romantic San Antonio evening.

23. Commemorate The Alamo

Remember the Alamo! San Antonio’s rich history is coming to life with thirteen days of interactive fun and “living history” at the Alamo. This special program will commemorate the Battle of the Alamo during its special anniversary. It’s a wonderful and educational event that is fit for the entire family. You’ll learn all about the battle, the building, and the people involved. The interactive shows will be performed daily, so that you are guaranteed a chance to see it!

24. Witness Power Rangers Live
The pop culture phenomenon Power Rangers is celebrating 25 years! This show popularized martial arts, stunts, and the five colorful teen action heroes that we all know and love.
