10 Fun Things to Do in San Antonio: October 2018 Edition

As a city of well over a million people (and growing!), San Antonio is constantly buzzing with activity. From new local businesses to colorful festivals and live music events, it seems there’s always “something to do” in the Alamo City.

But how do you choose the right ones to put on your calendar? That’s where we come in! As a group of San Antonio experts, we’ve curated a list of events worth checking out in the San Antonio area. Take time to read and explore all of the many options for October!

1. Catch the Season Opener

San Antonio’s pride and joy is taking the court for the first time this 2018 season on October 17th! The San Antonio Spurs are not only our local team, but a team considered legendary by any NBA fan. This year, they need our support more than ever, so why not make it a point to make it out to the season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves! Get your head in the game!

2. Grab a drink at Beer Fest

Love trying a bunch of new craft brews when you get the chance? The San Antonio Beer Festival is coming in hot for its 2018 edition this month. Founded in 2005, SA Beer Fest pours 400+ premium and craft beers from over 125 breweries across the globe. Of course, there will be music, games, wines, food, and local vendors to check out as well! Grab your tickets today!

3. Solve a Murder Mystery

Do you love crime thrillers? Have you always wanted to be the one to crack the case? The Gumshoe Society presents, “A Murder in Old San Antonio” - an interactive performance filled with crime, drama, and (of course) murder. A perfect event for the whole family, or even friends and co-workers, this event involves walking around the city gathering clues to solve the crime! Get your tickets here and prepare your best Humphrey Bogart impression, ya gumshoe!

4. Bop To Your Favorite Tunes at Mala Luna

Mala Luna Music Festival is bringing the freshest sounds to San Antonio! This unique two-day music festival combines national acts like Cardi B, Nicky Jam, and Tyler the Creator with prominent hometown artists. Mala Luna also wants to give back to the community by donating a portion of the proceeds to the Network for Young Artists. Grab your tickets here for a weekend of great music!

5. Cheers at Oktoberfest

When we hear October, we (obviously) can’t help but think of Oktoberfest! The Oktober fest at Beethoven has been compared to the original Munich festival, not in size but spirit. Running for two weekends in October, get over to Beethoven and drink great beer, eat amazing food, and dance the chicken dance!

6. See Colony House perform

Colony House is one of rock and roll’s coolest new bands! Their second studio album, Only the Lonely, hit shelves last year and the hype hasn’t stopped growing since. Their concert in San Antonio will take place at Paper Tiger, one of San Antonio’s premiere multi-genre venues that encourages anyone and everyone to come out to a show. 7. Bring the kids to Zoo Boo

The San Antoni o Zoo is putting on a family friendly, non-spooky Halloween celebration all month: Zoo Boo! On Saturdays and Sundays this month, the zoo will be turned into a Halloween world with trick-or-treat stations, pumpkin crafts, and games! Kids are encouraged to wear their best costumes for a chance to win a costume contest. The schedule of events is available on the website.

8. Get Spooked at SeaWorld

SeaWorld San Antonio is putting on some fantastic Halloween events this month for the whole family! During the day, enjoy trick-or-treating through the park, a Pet’s Ahoy Halloween show, and more. At night, Howl-o-Scream comes out, turning the park into a sinister zone of fright. Check out the website for more information.

9. Celebrate Dia de Los Muertos

Halloween and San Antonio - we know what you’re thinking: the Día de Los Muertos celebration is coming to La Villita on October 27-28! This celebration will bring together art and culture in beautiful (and sometimes creepy) ways. It’s sure to be one of the most colorful and exciting events of the year, so you won’t want to miss out on this free event!

10. Geek out at Comic Con

The Alamo City Comic Con is no longer for comic book nerds! Fans of any mass media are welcome to come and check out events from their favorite TV shows, movies, books, and more! Celebrity guests frequent the convention, and this one features the Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Other guests include Jeff Goldblum, Rick Moranis, Paul Reubens, some characters from the Office, and more. Tickets are available here!
