10 Fun Things to Do in San Antonio: August 2018 Edition

As a city of well over a million people (and growing!), San Antonio is constantly buzzing with activity. From new local businesses to colorful festivals and live music events, it seems there’s always “something to do” in the Alamo City.

But just how do you choose the right ones to put on your calendar? That’s where we come in! As a group of San Antonio experts, we’ve curated a list of events worth checking out in the San Antonio area. Take time to read and explore all of the many options for the month of August!

1. Nom on Tasty Frozen Treats

After all this Texas heat, you deserve a frozen treat! Thankfully, the 2nd Annual Frozen Treats Fest is happening at the Historic St. Paul Square the first Saturday in August! Enjoy paletas, milkshakes, ice cream sundaes, snow cones, mangonadas, margaritas, and so much more from local San Antonio vendors. Plus, enjoy live music (by The Tailgaters & Colorblog), face painting, games, and far more. Tickets are available here!

2. Learn About STEM with the Girl Scouts

Have kindergarten girls? Bring them to the Sally Cheever Center to learn about the four points of STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math on Saturday, August 4th! A lot of activities will involve water, so wear something that can get wet. Register here for a fun (albeit educational) summer activity.

3. Party at the Fiesta Noche del Rio

A summer-long outdoor performance series, the Fiesta Noche del Rio is a concert takes place each weekend on the San Antonio River Walk. This beloved cultural tradition features beautiful dances, costumes, and colors that bring to life the heritage of the city. Head to the Arneson River Theatre every Friday and Saturday night (through August 11th) to enjoy the music!

4. Catch the Sesame Street Parade

The only thing that makes SeaWorld even better? The Sesame Street parade! Make a plan to catch this colorful musical parade that wraps up on August 12th. For fans of SeaWorld or of the show, spend the day enjoying the attractions at the park (and catch some of your favorite Sesame Street characters do what they do best!). 5. See Shakira’s World Tour

Shakira is on her World Tour, playing her hits we have all heard on the radio over the past couple decades. The Latin pop star is making her return to San Antonio this month at the AT&T Center. Tickets are available here!

6. See Improv at Bexar Stage

Did you ever watch Whose Line is it Anyway on television and think, “I wonder if people do that in real life?” Well, they do! San Antonio has its very own improv theatre: Bexar Stage weekends are filled with laughter-packed shows perfect for a date or a night out with friends (plus, it’s easy on the wallet).

7. Get Wild at the Bean Bash

No need to sign up for all of those bean newsletters that are out there, because we are going to give you the best bean event in San Antonio right now: El Luchador’s Bean Bash! Come out to El Luchador (a colorful lucha-libre themed neighborhood bar just south of Southtown) on August 25th to eat some great charro bean recipes, enjoy good beer, and hang out with friends.

8. Get Inspired at the San Antonio Film Festival

The San Antonio Film Festival is the largest festival in South Texas promoting short and feature-length films from indie filmmakers! 10. Try Some Spanish Wines
