As a city of well over a million people (and growing!), San Antonio is constantly buzzing with activity. From new local businesses to colorful festivals and live music events, it seems there’s always “something to do” in the Alamo City. But just how do you choose the right ones to put on your calendar? As a group of San Antonio experts, we’ve curated a list of events worth checking out in the San Antonio area. Take time to read and explore all of the many options for the month of April!

1. Browse a Museum Exhibit
The tricentennial is coming around for San Antonio, and the McNay Art Museum is hosting “Spain to San Antonio: Hispanic Culture on Stage”, a cultural exhibit about the origins of the city. Featuring drawings, prints, and costumes, this show highlights all of the cultural roots of the San Antonio we know today.

2. Laugh with a Legendary Comic
The legendary John Cleese is coming to the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio on Wednesday, April 4. Cleese will be on stage sharing stories of his life, career, and offer up a Q&A for audiences members. Before all this happens, a screening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail will be on the big screen! Tickets are available here...coconuts not included!

3. Catch a Spurs Game

The San Antonio Spurs are always a fun team to watch, and the regular season is wrapping up soon! On April 1st, the Spurs are playing the Houston Rockets in a Texas showdown. With both teams being ranked high in the conference, it is sure to be a competitive game! Find tickets here.

4. Compete in a Ping Pong Tournament
Looking for a quirky and exciting event to do on a Friday night? The San Antonio Table Tennis Club is having a monthly beginner’s ping pong tournament, and the event is open to players of all ages. Check out the Facebook page for more information!

5. Eat and Drink at a Fiesta
Fiesta is this month (April 19-29)! While there will be plenty to do all around town, we recommend celebrating this year with “Chips N Salsa”, an event at Brick in the Blue Star Arts Complex. Expect salsa dancing, casino games, fusion food, an amazing band, and drinks for everyone! All proceeds benefit SA Youth, and tickets are available through the website.

6. Participate in a Golf Tournament
The 7th Annual Golf Fore Friends Tournament is happening this month at the Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club. This tournament benefits the Christus Santa Rosa Health System. Tee off with friends and support a good cause! More information and registration available here.

7. Celebrate the Battle of Flowers

The 127th Annual Battle of the Flowers parade will happen down the 2.5 mile downtown area of the River Walk late this April. In celebration of San Antonio’s 300-year mark, the parade will be nationally televised and broadcast to military bases. This parade is produced entirely by women and supports educational, artistic, and other achievements of the community’s youth.

8. Watch a Weird Al Concert
Weird Al Yankovic is coming to San Antonio and bringing all of his hilarious antics with him. Weird Al has been bringing the funny (as well as the unbelievable talent) to the stage and screen for decades, and his show is one you want to catch. Tickets are available here!

9. Perform at an Open Mic
502 Bar is hosting an open mic night for everyone looking to get their talent noticed. If you have a song, a stand-up routine, or a juggling act - this is the night for you! Also, gamers are invited to come play some games and enjoy drink specials all night.

10. Go to a Jazz and Poetry Night
Local professional poets are sitting in with jazz musicians to provide a night of outstanding words and music that are sure to be thought-provoking. A complimentary glass of the house-made sangria at Carmens is included with each ticket, which can be purchased here!
