One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. Each month, we will handpick 25 fun things to do in San Antonio...just to make planning your next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little easier. Take time to read and explore the many options for the month of June!
1. Understand Texas Folk Life
The Institute of Texan Cultures is presenting the annual Texas Folk Life Festival. This unique three-day event will feature and showcase our state’s diversity and varying cultures through food, dance, art, and music. Roam around and experience the culture for yourself through the different booths, vendors, and concerts. It’s a great weekend to learn more about the Lone Star State and all of the diversity that it offers!

2. Tune In for a Show
The newest production from The Playhouse San Antonio is Tuned In! The show mirrors an old-time radio show, giving you a look at a men’s acapella group and a radio show with lots of different songs and jingles. You’ll love the catchiness and vintage vibes! Additionally, the Clutch Quartet is going to serve as a special musical guest, contributing to a stellar performance you won’t want to miss. There’s no need for a radio set or a transistor for this show...everything will be live at Playhouse San Antonio!

3. Dive in Deep
The Witte Museum is excited to open their brand new exhibit in their brand new building. Whales: Giants of the Deep was developed by the Museum of New Zealand and allows you to explore the world of whales with the latest research and knowledge. Learn more about their biology, evolution, and the role that they’ve played in humanity. This fun exhibit is perfect for all ages as it uses science, storytelling, and an interactive capability for guests. You’ll have the unique opportunity to discover more about these amazing creatures and the world that they live in. Don’t worry if you can’t make it during the month of June; this will stay open until early September.

4. Get Wild for Weather
Ever wondered how hurricanes form? Or how fast tornadoes can move? The Witte’s new Wild Weather exhibit will inform you of weather patterns, climate change, and how scientists work to forecast the weather. This informative event even allows you to experience extreme weather from the safety of the exhibition hall. Perfect for kids, it’s a fun-filled event for summer that’s educational and exciting. The best news yet? Admission for Wild Weather is included with admission to Whales: Giants of the Deep (see above).

5. Enjoy Harry Potter
The unforgettable Harry Potter series may be finished, but now you have the opportunity to relive the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with a concert featuring the San Antonio Symphony! This cultural phenomenon will have you delighted, featuring an orchestra performance of John Williams music as the film plays in high definition on a giant screen. Fans will be pleased with the memorable performance and the music that comes with the fantastic film. Get your ticket now before this concert magically sells out.

6. Boogie at Night
Jungle Boogie Nights mean that the San Antonio Zoo is open later, every Friday night. Starting on June 2nd, the zoo will open its doors for guests to enjoy cooler temperatures, food and beverages, and live music to dance to after the sun starts to set. Beat the heat by attending the zoo party in the evenings and experience all that it has to offer after sundown. Local artists and vendors will be in attendance so that you can browse crafts while you’re there. Take advantage of this opportunity at some point during the month!

7. Party Like It’s 1899
The McNay is hosting a Moulin-Rouge-inspired party, modeled after the 1900’s Paris nightlife. Get a taste of the famous cabaret with live musical entertainment, food stations, cocktails, and a festive atmosphere. Dress accordingly for this summer party and make sure to turn to the movie for inspiration if necessary. This fun event will take you back in time with all of the entertainment and costumes. During the evening, there will be a raffle with amazing prize options for a few lucky winners!

8. Prepare for Technology

The DoSeum always manages to come up with innovative exhibits for kids of all ages. This summer is no different, and they’re embarking on a summer of technology! To keep the theme running, the DoSeum will host a Kid's Coding Challenge, Computer Lab time, technology summer camps, and a Tech Fair. Additionally, the DoSeum has partnered with local innovators in technology such as digiPlaySpace. During your visit, you can run through a virtual world and even create a painting with technology. Kids have the opportunity to learn about the technology world all summer long.

9. See Some Magic in Matilda
The hit Broadway musical Matilda has been called, “the best musical since The Lion King.” That being said, it’s since won 50 international awards and 4 Tony awards. The beloved novel tells the story of a girl who dreams of a better life, armed with a vivid imagination and the ability to control things with her mind. Watch out for flying objects, extraordinary characters, and memorable music! This is one musical that you won’t want to miss! Take your kids to watch Matilda change her destiny.

10. Taste New Wines
Paso Wine (originating from Paso Robles, California) is headed to San Antonio! With a special tasting event, guests can walk around and experience unlimited tastings from the Paso Robles Collection. You’ll get to taste some of their most popular wines from excellent producers in California. If you’re a wine connoisseur, this event is built for you! Learn more about wineries, vineyards, and more as the experts talk you through the winemaking process.

11. Create the Perfect Pair
Continuing on with our wine options for the month, Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort is offering an amazing five-course meal plus a wine pairing. Catered by Antlers Lodge and paired with wines from Cakebread Cellars, the evening will consist of the best wines to go with the unique dishes. Cakebread has produced some of the best wines from Napa with exquisite flavors...some wines scoring 94 points! If you’re looking for a special dinner for an anniversary or just a memorable date, this is the perfect event for you and your significant other.

12. Stretch Yourself to Get Creative
Cirque De La Symphonie is back in San Antonio with a stellar performance that will leave you breathless. Known for their daring acrobatic stunts and heart-stopping moments, these daredevils will perform feats of wonder while the San Antonio Symphony plays live. The music is perfectly coordinated with the stunts and performers on stage, contributing to a strong build up and moments that will leave you hanging. Last year, the show sold out quickly. We recommend getting a ticket fast!

13. Dive In for a Film
Splashtown San Antonio is now opening its doors on Friday evenings! “Dive in” for a movie during the summer months. On the movie line-up for this summer: “Sing”, “The Angry Birds Movie, “The Secret Life of Pets”, “The Lego Batman Movie”, and “Captain America Civil War”. Your kids will love getting to splash around while their favorite movie is playing. It’s the perfect way to stay cool in the summer months and keep little ones entertained for an evening.

14. Visit a Dinosaur
Dinosaur George is coming to Eisenhower Park so that you can learn more about dinosaurs through amazing replicas and fun, educational facts. The program seeks to entertain children of all ages, promising that there’s something for everyone. You’ll get to ask questions, interact, and see giant killer birds and large Texas mammals in the exhibit. This is a one-day event so make sure to bring the whole family along!

15. Crawl for Art
Get ready for Art Crawl: Exploring the Five Senses. Parents and nannies everywhere will love this awesome daytime event! Art Crawl is designed for crawling infants to experience the five senses as they interact with others. Engage with your child as they learn more about the amazing senses and get to see, smell, touch, hear, and smell all sorts of amazing things! Strollers are welcome and this gives you the perfect opportunity to spend the morning with your child.

16. See Fire Form
For the first time, Caliente Hot Glass is opening its doors for a unique demonstration of how blown glass is created into art! Glassblowing is a dying art and not many people have this skill. You’ll get to see an artist work for an hour as they create beautiful pieces of glass out thin air. After watching, all of the pieces will be donated to the SA Lighthouse for the Blind. This is an event open to the public that gives you the chance to see this amazing skill come to life!

17. Sing Classic Rock
Known as the ultimate classic rock band, Metallica was formed in 1981 and quickly skyrocketed to one of the most influential rock bands in history. They’ve played on all seven continents and have sold over 110 million albums worldwide. With Grammy Awards, MTV Music Awards, and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this iconic band is known to give the concert of a lifetime. You have the chance to see Metallica on their 2017 Worldwide tour when they play at the Alamodome, which will undoubtedly be a full venue on concert night. Get a ticket as quick as you can because this band will sell out fast!

18. Experience New Art
The San Antonio Museum of Art has a new exhibit: Heaven and Hell: Salvation and Retribution in Pure Land Buddhism brings over 75 paintings, various sculptures, and other works of art to showcase Buddhism and the afterlife. Originally formed throughout Asia, Buddhism has inspired so many works and developments of art through time! This unique exhibit will only be here for one day, so if you’d like the chance to see it, be sure to mark your calendar.

19. Learn to Play Golf
Looking for a summertime activity to keep your kids occupied? Try out the Topgolf Summer Academy. This is a half-day clinic for kids and teens that will teach them how to play the game of golf and all of the components that go with it. They’ll learn everything they need to know and experience golf first hand. Each junior golfer will receive one-on-one instruction to help them improve. The clinic includes entry, a membership card, a t-shirt, lunch, and a junior golf glove. This is a great activity for all ages! The best news? It’s a recurring event that will happen every Monday all summer long.

20. Get Spooked
It’s time for a spooky evening in June! Sisters Grimm Ghost Tours is giving a special tour of the Alamo Plaza so that you can learn more about its spooky history. You’ll visit sites like The Menger Hotel, The Crockett Hotel, and more supposedly haunted locales. (Many of the locations have a tie into the Battle of the Alamo and are said to be haunted by ghosts of soldiers!). This special evening is happening two nights in a row so that you can make sure you’re free! Get ready to be spooked and scared!

21. Get Excited About POP!
Pop superstar Enrique Iglesias will be joined by Pitbull for a performance like none other. The two A-list stars will be playing at the AT&T Center on June 17 for a legendary concert. Iglesias is known for his catchy “Spanglish” songs, while Pitbull has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry. They’ve never done a concert tour together, so you won’t want to miss this event!

22. Ride the Rapids
Six Flags Fiesta Texas is opening its very first “water coaster,” which is a roller coaster that is powered by water. This thrilling new ride is only at Fiesta Texas, making it unique to San Antonio. The grand opening is June 3, just in time for you and your family to kick off summer! In Texas, we know how important it is to stay cool during the scorching temperatures. Fiesta Texas has a full water park and this brand new ride is just what you need!

23. Grab A Frozen Treat
Get ready for a day of summer fun and a way to cool off from the heat! The Frozen Treats Fest is a free event that offers guests a variety of cool snacks: snow cones, milkshakes, ice cream, and more. Great music will be playing, food will be available, and slides/bouncy houses will be set up for kids to play. This is going to be a great day during the summer that can bring families together.

24. Meet a Reptile
Come out to Splashtown and have an adventure with a reptile! The Reptile Adventure Show will feature pythons, boas, lizards, crocodilians, turtles, and more! This amazing show happens three times a day and is included with your season pass or general admission ticket. Some of the reptiles featured are over 100 pounds and 100 years old! If you’ve got a child who is interested in the species, this is a perfect, educational event that they can attend and learn more.

25. See the Art in the Dark
Art in the Dark is a charity event that allows you to truly experience art with all five senses. Local artists, potters, designers, and sculptors will be present, and they’ve all donated art pieces for the auction. Food and drinks will be served while you browse the art and experience it. Throughout the evening, guests have the opportunity to bid on art pieces. All proceeds from the event will benefit the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind & Vision Impaired. Enjoy entertainment from the Blind Choir and an evening of art and enjoyment. It will be a memorable evening for a great cause!
