Ten Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend (September 30- October 2)

One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series, all pressure is off! Ten fun things to do in San Antonio will be chosen each week to make researching for the next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.

  • 1.  Experience Shakespeare

London, England is home to The Globe Theatre, Shakespeare’s very own theatre where many of his plays were (and still are) performed. The London Stage, a group of trained Shakespearean actors and actresses are currently here in San Antonio on tour, ready to excite you with an outstanding live performance of Richard III. They are bringing the experience of The Globe right here to San Antonio and invite you to come and experience Shakespeare in its truest form: minimal props and costumes, just acting and line delivery. Get ready for the treacherous tale of Richard III!

  • 2.  Be Traditional

Fall is officially here! With that comes the return of everything pumpkin: pumpkin patches, pumpkin spice lattes, and pumpkin bread! Be traditional this weekend and make a trip out to one of the city’s awesome pumpkin patches to snap a few pictures, enjoy the cooler weather, and pick out a prized pumpkin for carving. With over fifteen thousand pumpkins to choose from, you’re sure to find one that fits your needs. Kick off fall with the family in this fun way. This particular patch even offers train rides for the little ones.  After all, it’s the perfect excuse to embrace the pumpkin trend and grab a PSL on the way out.

  • 3.  Taste the Flavor of Fall

Bring on the fall season with Oktoberfest at Alamo Brewery! This seasonal festival welcomes fall with a variety of autumn brews, German food, polka music, and vendors for shopping. This traditional German festival will be fun for the entire family. Bounce houses will be provided for children and brewery tours are given to the adults. With food trucks and different beers to try, it’s best to come hungry! Help to ring in the fall season this year with an exciting tradition at Alamo Brewery.

  • 4.  Dance the Night Away

If you’ve always wanted to be able to dance the Flamenco, this festival is perfect for you! Sultry and rhythmic, the flamenco is an artful style of dance that can sometimes be a challenge to learn. By attending the festival, you’ll learn techniques and methods for dancing, as well as receiving help from an instructor who can guide you through some of the more difficult steps to master. During the festival, you’ll have the opportunity to watch professionals perform dazzling routines that will leave you feeling inspired. Novice dancers are absolutely welcome and will receive assistance and help! Get a ticket for this one quickly, seeing as how many of the sessions sell out.

  • 5.  Support Education

The St. Paul’s Episcopal School is having a Starry Night themed silent auction to benefit the school’s scholarship fund. Support our city’s educational programs by attending. You can bid on beautiful art pieces and the auction even includes a gorgeous diamond necklace. While browsing for a new piece of art, you can rest easy knowing that you are supporting a great cause and funding future scholarships. Tickets must be purchased in advance for the event!

It’s a tale as old as time, and it’s coming to San Antonio Playhouse! The classic Disney story of Beauty and the Beast is here, complete with all of the wonderful songs you know and love. Join SA Playhouse as they take you on an incredible journey into the world of Belle and the curse of the Beast. This musical is sure to keep you feeling young at heart and delivers an incredible performance. Everyone in attendance will be smiling and cheering at this tale as old as time.   • 7.  Snag a Vintage Find

Flea Markets are currently trending, giving way to fabulous vintage finds filled with history and significance. Shop the Jackson Ranch Vintage Market this weekend and you’re bound to discover a hidden treasure, as many of the items are over 200 years old! The wide variety that the market has offers furniture, jewelry, glassware, hats, art, and so much more! You can also find homemade items, baked goods, and a small farmers market. Live music helps to set the atmosphere and keep it lighthearted. You’ll definitely go home with a few new items and it’s free to get in!

  • 8. Cool Off with a Walk in the Park

It finally seems as if San Antonio is cooling off just a little bit. Revel in the fall season with time outside in one of San Antonio’s best parks. Brackenridge Park offers a variety of walking trails, picnic spots, playgrounds, and even a train ride for young kids! This weekend is the perfect time to bring your four-legged friend for a walk in the park or bring your friends and family out for a fun picnic. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy the cooler temperatures while you can! You never know how long they may last. The park is the perfect spot to enjoy a lazy Saturday afternoon!

  • 9.  Get Your Home Ready for Fall

The Home and Garden Show is happening this weekend at the Alamodome! Fall decorations are all over Pinterest and out in the stores. Sometimes these decorations can be pricey or difficult to replicate. At the Home and Garden Show, you can see these fall looks on fabulous displays and purchase at a price that meets your budget needs. Be inspired with all of the gorgeous fall colors in the wreaths and decorations. Waltz the aisles and meet hundreds of vendors, each with a unique booth to look at. It’s the annual event that helps to bring in and celebrate the season of fall!

  • 10.  Grab a Good Book

What is it about fall that makes people want to grab a cup of coffee and pick up a good book? We challenge you to do just that this weekend. The shop has everything from children’s books to award-winning classics. Additionally, Twig offers reading clubs or book clubs for those who would like to be involved.
