Ten Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend (November 11-13)

One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series, all pressure is off! Ten fun things to do in San Antonio will be chosen each week to make researching for the next Friday celebration, date night, or family outing a little more simple.

  • 1.  Showdown and Cook-off

There’s nothing like a cooking showdown to liven things up during the fall! Come and enjoy as teams compete in the 2nd Annual Alamo Showdown Cook-Off and taste test all of the different flavors and cuisines that are cooked up. The requirement for this challenge is using one pot and Alamo beer in the recipe. It’s the perfect thing to do on a chilly fall morning. We can guarantee that chilies, soups, and more will quiet your stomach rumblings. The proceeds from the event contribute toward scholarships for students, so you know that you’re participating in a good cause too!

  • 2.  Explore Southtown

The growing area of Southtown offers so many things to do each weekend. STADfest 2016 has arrived and gives visitors a glimpse into small businesses, studios, and art galleries for the day. It’s a day of variety that promises beer tastings, live performances, art, music, fitness, and food. The event will be taking place all over the arts district, and if the weather permits, you can even rent a bike from Blue Star Bike Shop as an excellent way to get around and ensure that you experience everything. Celebrate all that this district has to offer and explore a new area!

Get ready for a fun evening with Greg Vaccariello at Rivercenter Comedy Club! This New York native has been performing stand-up comedy for years and his love for comedy shows in every performance. Greg tries to connect his audience to his personal life through hilarious anecdotes and past memories on the subject of relationships, family, and everyday events. His comedy is pretty clean, making it a great event for older kids. Get your ticket for this weekend and lighten your mood with laughter!

  • 4.  Shop the Vintage Market

You know the saying: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. This weekend is the perfect opportunity for you to find that treasure at the Vintage Market Days. Country Living Magazine calls this one of the best flea markets and barn sales! The event has everything from furniture, art, jewelry, food, and holiday décor. It’s truly a shopping experience that you won’t want to miss if antiquing is your forte. To create a fun mood, there will be live music and food trucks for entertainment while you shop.   • 5.  Get Schooled in Scandal

In this day and age, our culture is obsessed with any big scandal or breaking news. The Classic Theatre of San Antonio takes an old play with contemporary values and breathes new life into it. Centered on hypocrisy, The School for Scandal is a witty play with broken reputations and celebrity status. This play has just had an opening weekend and plans on playing until the end of the month.   • 6.  Beware of Muggles

Muggles beware! You won’t have a chance against Harry Potter experts as they embark on an evening of trivia! The American Cancer Society hosts a Harry Potter trivia night that allows you to put your wizarding skills to the test as you answer questions about the beloved series. Come in costume, enter the raffle, enjoy dinner, and donate to a good cause! Put on your Hogwarts gear and get ready for the tough bonus round if there’s a tiebreaker!

  • 7.  Immerse Yourself in Music

Get ready for a music experience like no other! This weekend at Hotel Emma, you can witness choral music, presented by Nathan Felix, as they take up the Sternewirth Room and sing their hearts out! This is a unique experience in that it allows guests to sing and participate while the choir sings! In the small space, the twenty-five-person choir will sing several different songs that attendees will surely know and be able to join in with. A string section will perform as backup music, creating a memorable and stirring performance. Don’t miss out on this cool, interactive event! Afterward, stay for a drink at the bar or have dinner at the hotel’s famous restaurant, Supper.

  • 8.  Run a 5K

The Country Run is a fun 5K race that goes around the Freeman Coliseum. Participants will be dressed “country,” so think cowboy attire, bandanas, and boots if you’re brave! The race is stroller friendly too, allowing this to be a great opportunity to get the whole family active and involved. All of the proceeds raised will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters, a volunteer program that pairs adults with a “little” that they can mentor and help. This is a race across the entire nation too, not just San Antonio. All over the country, cities will be participating in their own version of the Country Run. Wake up and get active this Saturday!

  • 9.  Enjoy a Homemade Lunch

  • 10.  Celebrate Tejano

The Tobin Center celebrates the 36th Annual Tejano Music Awards! San Antonio is, of course, the perfect place for this celebration to happen as the city holds home to some of the most famous Tejano stars. Beforehand, there will be a purple carpet where fans will get to greet the stars as they arrive! During the award ceremony, stars will be recognized for their phenomenal music and their presence in the industry. If you plan on attending, you could meet or see Clay Walker, Paula DeAnda, Miss Latina San Antonio, and more! Don’t miss out on a beautiful night at the Tobin Center for this exciting celebration.
