One of the greatest benefits of living in San Antonio is the variety of “things” to see and do. In fact, there are so many San Antonio attractions and events on any given weekend that it can seem overwhelming to choose just one. In this series all pressure is off! Ten fun things await you for this fabulous Fourth of July weekend! We’ve rounded up the top ten activities for you and your family to partake in as you celebrate Independence Day- San Antonio style.

  • 1.  Enjoy the Fireworks

It’s not Independence Day without a fireworks show, and Woodlawn Lake Park is hosting San Antonio’s biggest 4th of July party and it is free! The fireworks extravaganza doesn’t happen until sundown; however, come to the park for the entire day to partake in food, live music, a carnival, and even a Zumbathon! There are tons of activities all throughout the day at this one event and there is something for everyone! Throw on your red, white, and blue for this fun-filled day in the park as you celebrate America!

  • 2.  Stay Classic with America

The lasting classic rock group, America, is coming to the Tobin Center for a 45-year anniversary show. This group originated in the 1960s and quickly became famous with songs like “A Horse With No Name” and “Ventura Highway”. Their multiple albums have won countless awards and have gone gold and platinum. Don’t miss your chance for some classic rock with America this weekend and see the band come together for this special anniversary performance. The music is guaranteed to rock your world and it’ll be a crowd-pleasing performance for sure!

  • 3.  Remember the Alamo... and Apollo 13

Come see the Alamo like you’ve never seen it before with an outdoor movie night! Bring your own blankets and chairs and park yourself under the stars at the Alamo as you watch the classic movie, Apollo 13. This film tells the story of Texas astronauts as their mission to outer space goes awry and they are faced with a terrible decision that will impact their lives. You probably know the story of this great film, but chances are you’ve never enjoyed it in this particular setting! Pack a picnic and settle in for a movie under the stars.

  • 4.  Celebrate Freedom with Music

Celebrate the 4th of July with a little live music at Freedom Fest! This event takes place in El Mercado, or Market Square, in the downtown area. Live performers such as Erica Gonzaba, La Cima, and the Air Force Band will be singing and performing throughout the entire day so that you can dance, sing, and enjoy delicious food and drinks all afternoon before heading to your fireworks show. The best news is that it is a three-day event! You can pick and choose which time works for you as it is a come-and-go event. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to enjoy some awesome and authentic live music in downtown San Antonio!

  • 5.  Get Ready for The Greatest Show On Earth

The Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus is in town! Known as “The Greatest Show on Earth”, this famous circus offers you the newest spectacles and most exotic animals. Get ready for trampoline tricks, tightrope walkers, a human cannonball, amazing contortionists, and of course, dazzling performances and exquisite animals! This amazing show really does have it all and you won’t want to miss the opportunity to take your friends and family to the AT&T Center for this incredible show! Even if you’ve seen the circus before, this is the new and improved “extreme” version, so snag a ticket fast to ensure your spot!

  • 6.  Fly Into Independence Day

The Stinson Municipal Airport is a historic site here in San Antonio and offers you and your family the chance to celebrate Independence Day by commemorating the Air Force on this patriotic holiday. Come and see vintage military aircrafts, get a tour of the grounds and planes, and partake in several activities and learning experiences throughout the day. There will be multiple planes that are of historic importance and you can learn all about them at the July 4th Celebration. Planes will be flying through the sky to make the day memorable and the air show will be something you won’t want to miss on this special day!

  • 7.  Gather Fresh Ingredients

With Independence Day come cookouts, BBQ, and grilling. Gather your fresh ingredients at the Trinity University Market this year! The farmer’s market features fresh, home grown, and sustainable food items like corn, lettuce, tomatoes, onion…pretty much all of the ingredients that you’ll need for your 4th of July cook out! Let your veggies be home grown this year and watch as you impress everyone with each vegetable’s delicious flavor. Don’t forget to bring your reusable grocery bags!

  • 8.  Grab A Coke and Celebrate the 4th at Fiesta Texasa

Celebrate the 4th this year at Fiesta Texas! You’ll definitely want to grab a bottle of Coca-Cola before you go because simply by presenting the can, you receive exclusive early access to select rides! You can ride these particular rides one hour before the park even opens! Stay all day and enjoy the stunning fireworks show at night as Fiesta Texas lights up the sky for guests to celebrate America’s independence. If you can’t make it on the 4th, the park is offering this special event and deal all weekend long! Go ahead, grab a coke!

  • 9.  Don’t Be Fooled!

A good magician never reveals the secrets of his trade! Come and see the Magic Foolers show this weekend and don’t let yourself be fooled by these amazing magicians and their tricks! Illusions, slight of hand, disappearing acts…it’s all a part of the fooler’s show here in San Antonio. You’ll find yourself constantly wondering how these magic tricks really work. It promises to be a fun and exciting show for every member of the audience. Who knows, maybe you’ll even be chosen to be the magician’s assistant! Get your ticket early to ensure a seat in this magical show.

  • 10.  Walk Along the River for Red, White, and Blue

The San Antonio River Walk hosts a boutique along the river every so often. This time, it is 4th of July themed. Come and shop the different vendors and boutiques as they open up their booths to sell patriotic items for your wardrobe, home, or garden. Most booths will have gifts or merchandise that are centered around Independence Day, whether it is a patriotic scarf or a cute serving tray with the American flag. You’re bound to find something this weekend at the Artisan River Walk Boutique!
