4 Things to Consider When Choosing a San Antonio Neighborhood

If you’re looking for your new home here in San Antonio, chances are you have a few specific neighborhoods in mind. But which one really suits your family best? To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of the top three things to consider when choosing your next neighborhood.

1. Proximity to Your Frequented Locations: You may think, "I'll just spend a few extra minutes in the car!" if you find that perfect home in a far-out neighborhood. However, we recommend considering your kids, your commute, and your favorite local spots first. Ideally, your new neighborhood should be zoned to a school you’d like your child to attend, a manageable commute from your workplace, and close to whatever features are important to you and your family (be it a park or green space for your dog, a local church, or family friends).

2. Demographics: Check out an area's vibes and demographics before you commit to a neighborhood. For example, if you have young children, it’s important to find an area that is not only kid-friendly but also has other children living in the neighborhood. Play dates for your little one can’t happen easily if there aren’t any other kids around!

3. Safety: Another huge factor in neighborhood choice is the safety of your potential neighborhood. If it’s right along a busy street and you have young kids, you may reconsider the purchase. Obviously, you’ll also want to consider the area's crime rates (and whether or not there have been break-ins). Know the safety features of your neighborhood and be aware of any potential risks.

4. Longevity: Additionally, you'll want to think about the longevity of the house and the neighborhood. If this is a "starter neighborhood" with a starter house, are you going to outgrow it in just a few years? Will you be able to stay in the neighborhood as long as you need to? Don’t put yourself in a situation where you immediately have to move again!
